As a 17 year old Hasek was the IIHF all-star goaltender of the world junior championships.

A few months later he started as the youngest goalie ever in the world championships for Czechoslovakia.

No one ever could stop the puck like Hasek could (in my lifetime).

His anticipation and reflexes were dialed in.

Tretiak tutored Belfour but not Hasek when they were all in Chicago. Why? "Because he doesn't do anything I teach" Tretiak said.

All he does is stop the puck, I cannot recall who said first.

Hasek played 70 games once in his career. Brodeur did it 12 times, including 10 years in a row.

No doubt Hasek attained a level Brodeur never did, but I don't think the difference is enough to offset the stability and reliability Brodeur brought to the table.

Put Hasek on Jersey tho and they win 6 Cups which would also diminishe Roys legacy. But in today's game I think it would be Brodeur. But Hasek was innovative..maybe he'd invent something else today.

I dunno.

1. Hasek hated shot blockers because of deflections. Take away the pass or force the pass, then get the f out of the way! When a goal was scored off of a bounce, gawd he would lose it, yelling at his dmen.

2. Hasek got better with more shots faced. No kidding, if he faced 15 first period shots and one went in, then he was set. If he faced just 5-7 shots in the opening period then 'oh oh' my Sabres might be in danger. Twisted but true. We used to laugh about it in sports bars.

Some goalies do need shots i was like that. Both me and Hasek. Lol

Back to Mogilny- imagine he played in THIS league??

Dang four pages went fast since I picked Mogilny.
The Jackals select Alex Mogilny, the 1998 world juniors best forward all star, 1988 Olympic champion, 1989 world juniors champion, 1989 world championship champ, a 1996 World Cup top scorer for Russia, by then a two-time NHL 2nd team all-star right winger, later a 2000 Stanley Cup champion, 2003 Lady Byng winner.

Alex was faster than all of us, Bure and Fedorov, and Alex was a machine,” Fedorov explained. “He was built like a machine. Plus on top of all the crazy skill he had, he’s better than all of us. He’s amazing. If you went back and forth five times, Mogilny will be first. I will be third.”

Elmer Vasko
Was going to be my "break-glass-in-case-of-emergency" cheap-out option if I'd missed out on Ragulin. He didn't deserve the 1962-1963 Norris any less than Pilote, who unworthily won it.
We cut Crosby ALL THE SLACK for injuries year after year that affect his season totals (his top ten goals seasons are just two 1sts and two 7ths - history might judge: can he shoot?).
Umm... about that "we" to which you refer...
Absolutely. Now that would be fair criticism.

I had a bias for picking Mosienko because I'm writing a book about him!
I don't take this quite so seriously as to be above making a sentimental pick. In the last OPPF, I picked Jimmy Ward out of sentimentality.

I had to pay high for Elmer but I have Mario and Cook to deal with so I need another layer behind Lidstrom w size (and speed apparently). I also think Vasko-Konstantinov can be a poor man replica of Vasko-Pilote? If not I can drop Tom Johnson. I have Karlsson on the third pair to beef up for missing offense in the top 4.

Gonna watch a 97 game pitt-det for fun to see how Lidstrom and Konstantinov dealt with Mario and Jagr. Not sure if they played together enough to get a boost from pairing them in atd?

I'll take Gordon Roberts, LW

I found more quotes to substantiate his two way game, he seems to be at least as good as he is considered in ATD cannon

New bio

I am leaving the ATD. In fact I am leaving the site altogether. This has been brewing for a few weeks (years?) in the back of my mind, and I decided this morning that the experience brought more negatives than positives in my life, and I see no future for myself in this community, as I've been feeling increasingly uncomfortable in this place.

That said, I am going to complete my lineup out of respect for the game. After that, I'm gone forever.

A few of you might want to keep in touch, if so just PM me and we'll find a way elsewhere.

See you and hoping for a good continuation for the ATD. It was a pleasure and immensely fulfilling to be part of this for a decade. But all good things must come to an end. Good luck everyone.

No clutch and grab?

5'11 dmen?

He would make Ovechkin look like a piece of granite.

I wouldn't go that far- Ovie's shot is a great equalizer. It's like the martial arts trope of the karate guy who tries to scare you with a bunch of chops and grunts and the other guy pulls out a gun, or maybe that's Indiana Jones.
