The Borg Collective will seek to add even more leadership, but mostly grit, to their blueline. This player was a defensive stalwart during his tenure with the Philadelphia Flyers and was a crease clearing monster who helped them to back-to-back Stanley Cups. This player helped solidify the Flyers status as Broadstreet Bullies with his tough play, fearless shot blocking, and intimididating presence on the blue line and in front of his goalie. The Borg Collective proudly select Ed Van Impe

I don't.

What on earth does chumbawamba mean?

They were an anarchist punk band who were active in the U.K. for over 20 years, but had one out-of-character pop hit in 1997. The song "Tubthumping" has a big shout along chorus, which 70s referenced to characterize Magnuson's spirit and positivity.

That song is great to drunkenly scream at a party

As requested, here is the table with the rest of the non-pp and recently drafted players slotted in.

New entries who did really well - Tanguay and Shutt (who were never catalysts, but still...), and a little bit down, Keon and Parise. Guys who didn't - Wendel Clark (we knew this was coming), and Brian Rolston (truly a special teams specialist). Everyone else kinda fell in the "pack".

What's the range of score for a guy like say... Joe Sakic, to take a random non-outlier offensive superstar? Just to give me some perspective on what those numbers meant ''overall'' and not just between non-pp ATDer forwards.

I would think the easy answer is 700, given that any derivation of VsX7 is specifically a percentage of what a non-outlier superstar would be expected to produce.

Good point.I'm just not used to the numbers when presented that way.

Keeping in mind, of course, that the outliers and non-outliers could be different players if you're counting total points vs. even-strength points.

And to better answer your question, a score of 700 would be an indication that Sakic is a good example of the concept, rather than the other way around ("we know Sakic fits the bill, so 700 must be the benchmark.)

Using all-situations, 7-year VsX (because that's what I have in front of me), the players that best embody "7 years of non-outlier superstardom" are:

1. Andy Bathgate (+1.1)
2. Alex Ovechkin (-1.6)
3. Sidney Crosby (+1.8)
4. Howie Morenz (+2.2)
5. Joe Sakic (-2.3)
6. Maurice Richard (+2.4)
7. Bill Cowley (-3)
8. Marcel Dionne (+3.3)
9. Charlie Conacher (-3.8)
10. Bill Cook (-4)

Is there a reason we don't talk strictly about even strength scoring for all players including those on scoring lines? I feel like that's probably where we're evolving to. Because pp scoring is a separate thing that can be assessed when comparing pp units.

I get that raw vsx is meant to be "Apples to apples" because all those guys played on the pp, so in theory, vsx is a proxy for esvsx, but if this esvsx stuff has shown me anything, it's that it's often not the same at all.

Just take these numbers and divide them by 7 to get a "standard format" 7-season ESVsX number. So for example, your Tony Amonte comes out to 81.3.

A seven point gap in these numbers is then like a single point gap in the standard format.

Tanguay's offense is so darn good for a bottom 6, but I'm actually considering putting him in the press box in favour of Gagne. Might seem crazy to some.

Doesn't seem crazy to me. Gagne was a great two way forward in his his time with the Flyers. Great even strength goal scorer as well.

Yeah I know, I also did that for the playoff VsX numbers just so it's easier for my brain to contextualize it quickly.

Just wasn't sure if the numbers looked the same as the regular VsX for high-end players.
