Herb Gardiner, D.
Phew.. I might have been forced to take him if he continued to fall.
He's no worse than quite a few D taken recently.
Thanks. I actually really wanted Tkachuk but I'm not too dissapointed.I like KF's Barber pick as well, chemistry-wise a good fit with Beliveau-St. Louis
Thanks!Barber is a guy I wanted to assimilate but didnt know when to take him. A fine addition to any team
I would say he's better than quite a few D taken recently. Nice pick
Only hesitation was he's another lefty and can I use em' on the right side next to Goodfellow...then I checked and he;s been used as a RSD here a few times before.
What about in real life?
Somebody round up Overpass's project.
He's not on there...better start looking into who his partners were or maybe somebody already did the dirty work and it's in a previous bio
Left handed Defenseman are used on the right side here all the time, and unless theres actually evidence that their play drastically dipped if they were forced to play there - like Fetisov, then we always give them credit. This really pisses me off if people aren't going to Give Gardiner credit for being himself on the right side - especially when he's been used there in the ATD multiple times.
What I found for Gardiner was that every Tigers defenseman until 1925-26 was a LHS. Who played which side, I don't know. In 1925-26, a HOF RHS D joined the team. It's probably safe to assume that Gardiner played LD that year. When Gardiner joined the Habs the next season, they had two other defenseman that played a meaningful number of games. One was Mantha who was a RHS, and the other guy was also a RHS. The same two guys along with Gardiner made up the defensive core for the Habs the next season. The same story applied when Gardiner joined the Hawks in 1928-29.
Moral of the story: Gardiner may or may not have played RD before 1925-26, but after this point, it's almost a certainty that he played LD.
I think you missed a certain prominent RD who played for the Tigers the whole time Gardiner was there.
Based on his partners I think it's unlikely that Gardiner ever played the right side as his primary position in professional hockey.
I have little doubt the left side was his primary position - but can anyone prove his play dips on the right side?

If you're going to use this logic then what's to stop you from saying the same thing about right and left wings?

Well, if it's me personally, I have no issues with wingers transitioning to the opposite side..
