In regards to the Toivanen pre-season success...

Does anyone remember Hannu Jarvenpaa?

Let's drop the stat watching from games that don't count...

Not only that, but look at how the stats were weighted. He got almost half his points in 1 game. Before that, it was 5 points in 7 games. Still good, but not nearly as impressive. Since the start of the season, he has 6 points in 3 games. Nice hot streak to start off with. Let's see how long the cold streaks last.

It's propably the best ever hot streak to start with in that league. However, I don't see a profound reason why Tolvanen wouldn't be able to score at 0.5PPG pace throughout the season. At this moment in time, Tolvanen>Vesalainen. That's not to say it will be like that always. Mikko Koivu turned out fine despite being a high picked late bloomer. That's the kind of career curve I expect of Vesalainen if he pans out.

There is no reason to even compare them right now, as Vesalainen's season hasn't started.

A sample size of 3 games vs a sample size of zero.

I know with the amount of Finns on here this stuff is going to go on all year, but can we at least wait until Vesalainen has the opportunity to play a regular season game lol?

I just commented on Corgis basically insinuating that 6 points in 3 games to start the season was nothing to write home about. When infact it is historical. Would be even if it was done by Vesalainen in Liiga. But I'm saying that in either case while Eeli has obviously found a way to be effective in the pro game (not about the 6 points but the general effectiveness of his game), it doesn't mean Vesalainen couldn't at a later time. However, at this point Tolvanen has proven to be effective at the pro level, while Vesalainen's level is more of a questionmark. He could come out with guns blazing but I wouldn't expect it, nor would I be worried about it. Hell, Mikko Koivu in his 20 year old season wasn't a 0.5PPG player in FEL, people shouted he was a bust, but he came through as an effective NHL first line 70 point center.

Listed as the 1st line RW today for HPK. I will definitely try to catch this game, as there will be many interesting prospects playing.

Good point. We can blame it on the rest of the team being offensively challenged and dragging KV down to their level.

More that productivity needs to be contextualized to overall scoring rates. 8 players had 50+ goals in 1987/88, and Mike Bullard had 48 goals. 105 points wouldn't get you into the top-10 in scoring.

It's a shame these practice games aren't streamed anywhere. Would have been nice to actually see him play.

Yeah, I watched the game against Sibir live on Ruutu but it wasn't archived, I wanted to go back and watch again but wasn't there. The only other HPK game I see is when he was at the Four Nations games. Oh well, season starts in a week.

Should we be offended though? :D

Obviously he was told to do it for the spot and never thought it out.

how much heavier will he get? 225 to 230 lbs out of the question? Both him and Laine (230?) will be very heavy boys in the future.

could be a fun line with Buff (240) on defence and sheif (220) down the middle.

Yeah, and while "the NHL Jets cap doesn't fit (yet) so I'm still playing on FEL HPK" is kind of obvious and funny joke, in real life he kind of has way too big (and not too small) "cap" (or rather boots) to fill to make it into NHL.

Btw. while I did like drafting Vesalainen, I was a bit disappointed that Jets didn't draft Tolvanen, which to me was like a pocket size version of Patrik Laine. I was amazed actually when he slipped 20+ position on draft, but his size may be the concern. He was so great in U18 for instance. More so in my eyes than much older Pulju in that particular tournament. Also his skating has been improved a ton. Let's just hope that both Vesalainen & Tolvanen are doing great in the future.

i can't wait for both veselainen and tolvanen to turn out to be top-6 mehs

sad thing is that veselainen has more chance at that as his skillset is more transferable to the bottom 6
