Speculation: Is Bowen Byram available? or will be? Lots of speculation about him from the "insiders"

Cap Space
Byram+Cozens for Kadri+Andersson+Weegar

Buffalo needs to start acquiring talent that can help them right now and stop building for the future. Flames need to do the opposite

Makes no sense imo. They went out and traded a good young C for this guy, and Dahlin prefers RD anyways. Trading a beloved dude who is now crushing in Colorado for a piece, then immediately moving that piece would look awful- the optics alone would likely stop it from happening.

Ugly turnover that led to Backlunds game tying goal, he's developing into a one dimensional offensive dman.

If he were available I could see maybe Ottawa. Something around Norris or Batherson.
I could not see this at all.

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - Jensen
Kleven - JBD/Hamonic

Plus Yakemchuk and a small handful of potential bottom pair options in the system.

Sens have very little skill at forward outside of the NHL. Norris and Batherson especially wouldn't be made available for Byram, and I doubt Byram would be too happy entering into the exact same situation as his one in Buffalo right now.

Byram is better than anything Ottawa has outside of Sanderson.

No he's not lol. Chabot has been by far our top defenseman this season so far and is part of BY FAR our best pairing, and looks as good as ever now that he isn't regularly playing 30+ mins with scrubs. In fact, Chabot has always performed extremely well when playing with NHL-caliber partners. The only reason to swap Chabot out for Byram is for cap savings.

He is head and shoulders better than Byram, as is Sanderson, and Zub and Jensen provide important qualities that Byram lacks (RHD, shutdown aces). Kleven is also our clear-cut #5D, adding another LHD would force one of our top 6 to their off-side, which rarely works.

Positive corsi? Byram's xGF% is also atrocious and he is scoring 3 goals above expected. It's not even like he has an excellent shot or anything (Great shot, yes, but there are dman with stronger and more elusive shots that don't come near his shooting percentages). Byram is a very one dimensional player.

Buffalo gave up a good player to acquire Byram with the intention he would fill a hole as a top-4 D on a long-term basis.

It is highly unlikely they have decided that was a mistake after 30 games. Particularly, when he is playing 21 minutes a night, has a positive +/-, a positive Corsi and 8 points in 13 games, all of them at even strength (among the league’s top 10 for D).

It is possible that Byram has told the Sabres he has no interest in signing there long term and he is being shopped because of that.

It is more possible that Canuck fans have latched on to a BC boy on a team they think they can poach from because it’s a downtrodden franchise and the echo chamber has brought that to life.

If i were the habs, Id be all over this. They NEED defensive power. They have Zero.
Byram isn't defensive.

Byram is better than anything Ottawa has outside of Sanderson.
Outside of unsustainable production, Byram isn't close to the calibre of Zub and Chabot. He's not even currently better than Jensen, but has far higher ceiling of course.

How can Sabres have better forwards, coaching, dman, goaltending and still be exactly .500 like the Sens, while having far worse advanced metrics in every category? Not to mention unlike the Sens, the Sabres have been mostly healthy so far. What gives?
