Prospect Info: At 16th Overall the Rangers Select Brennan Othmann

Othmann making the team might depend a lot on his making an adjustment not just to the jump to the pros but possibly even to RW. Right now LW is Panarin, Kreider, Lafreniere. If we moved on from Panarin or Kreider it might be a different picture.

Also young players turning pro don't make an NHL team over the summer. They have to come to training camp and show they're ready and there has to be some kind of an opening.

As for his skating it looks good enough to me. It's mostly about getting to where you need to be. Not every player needs to be racing full tilt around the ice all the time.

FWIW also I would have taken Wallstedt---not Othmann. I think Wallstedt might end up being one of the 5 best players taken out of his draft. That said I think Brennan has done well the last two seasons. His draft + ! year he scored a ton of goals for Flint. This year he adjusted his game to the more two way game that Peterborough plays and still he's their best player IMO. He's played on two WJC gold medal teams adjusting to the demands of being played up and down the lineup. He plays a hard nosed game too. Reminds me somewhat of Adam Graves and it took Graves a few years to really become a star but even before he became a big scorer he was a great teammate (kind of what you see in Sam Bennett for Florida these days)---a heart and soul player that played a hard hitting, physical game and when he needed to adapt his game he did. These are traits I see with Othmann right now and Graves wasn't the greatest skater either.

Jason Robertson is not a very good skater. He looks awkward at times. His hockey sense and his ability to find the holes and finish makes him a great player. Mark Stone isn’t a very good skater. Great player.
Corey Perry....will and an honest effort and not liking finishing second in corner and net front battles are wonderful attributes for a hockey player .

I would not mind Perry on a 1 year deal. At least wed be guaranteed to lose in the finals and make the finals lol Perry would be a good depth option for cheap. Has experience is a jerk on the ice but can still play although not the 50 goal player he once was, he is still useful as long he does not take dumb penalties at the worst time

I don't see how he doesn't make the team. It's possible he doesn't but I'd have to say his trajectory is him being with the big boys in October.
RW is certainly wide open. I’d really prefer that he plays on the top line/PP in Hartford as opposed to a bottom six role on the big club.

It will come down to whether or not the team trades Goodrow and resigns one of Kane or Tarasenko for cheap.

The solution to this is simple:

Move one of Laf, Kreider, or Panarin to RW. Then you have Kakko and Laf in the top 6. Othmann can play on Chytil's wing on the 3rd line.

Having Laf and Kakko in the top 6. Othmann and Cuylle on the team. Chytil.

That's a good place to be in. Time to get these kids playing big spots. No more scrubs like Hunt, Vesey, Goodrow, Blais, Vatrano sapping up minutes in the top 9.

Also, no Kane. Guy needs like 6 months to recover from his surgery.

I rather have Edstrom over an tweener with no future. Remember Edstrom played in a pro year and physically NHL ready with his size.

The problem is that none of Panarin, Kreider, Lafreniere have been great at RW. It's not like any of them are terrible there but they're all lesser players when they're on RW......and do you make that kind of a tradeoff for a first year pro who's yet to get his feet wet who you're going to fit onto your third line? The best thing IMO is if Othmann can do a reasonable job as a RW and it might be better for him too if he can prove he can play RW if only because there are less obstacles in his path for moving up in the lineup.

Cuylle I see more as an LW or a guy you'd start off on your 4th line. That said of any other Rangers player in their entire organization now he is a guy that could one day be a reasonable replacement for Kreider as a net front presence on the power play. He's still got some learning to do though. Things take time.

Would be awesome if Othmann comes into camp and shows he can start in the NHL, but I would give it a less than 25% chance of happening.

The AHL would be a faster game than he's ever played in before, and it's going to be a huge adjustment for him. Even if he looks okay in camp, do we really want to play him 10 minutes a game in the NHL when he could be getting top6 minutes in the AHL?

We've read this script before.

Im fine with the AHL to start but hope he pushes his way up soon.

Blame our next coach if he doesn't become a star.

This is the same guy who posted a similar chart after he was drafted and got relentlessly dragged last season when Othmann was dominating his league. The replies to this one should be entertaining once the hive gets a chance to attack.

Oh please these guys are rediculous
Othmann and the Petes won the OHL Championship.
Is there even PBP data for the OHL? What is this being based off of.
He was traded mid season and took some time to adjust.
Reminder: NHLe models thought Kravtsov was the second coming of Panarin.
BS.
