great deal

JBD/Thompson can't replace Zub as Dorion might have originally envisioned, so it was critical to get him signed. Now to add another top 4 D.

Good deal. Thought he was hitting the market for 6-7 mil tho. Shining lights of nicer markets or something

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the team has signed defenceman Artem Zub to a four-year contract extension. The contract holds an average annual value of $4.6M and will see Zub earn $4M in 2023-24, $4.8M in 2024-25, $4.8M in 2025-26 and $4.8M in 2026-27. The duration of the contract, which will commence on July 1, 2023, also includes a 10-team no-trade list.
Zub, 27, established National Hockey League career highs in goals (six), assists (16), points (22) and penalty minutes (60) while having skated in all but one of the team's 82 regular-season games last season. By way of tallying four points (two goals, two assists) over 14 contests in 2022-23, he moved into sole possession of 30th place among all-time Senators' defencemen in scoring earlier this season and has posted 40 points (11 goals, 29 assists) over the first 142 games of his NHL career.

"Artem's transition to North American hockey has been remarkable," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He has worked hard to establish himself as an excellent NHL player and a strong defender. He consistently helps make us a better defensive team while he's on the ice. We're pleased to reach agreement with him on an extension of this length."

Having represented his country internationally on several occasions, Zub won a gold medal as part of the Olympic Athletes from Russia team at the 2018 Winter Olympics and bronze with Russia at both the 2017 and 2019 World Championships.

I truly believed that we did not prioritize signing him because Chychrun was management's number 1 target in off-season. When that derailed, Zub became clear answer. I am aware others have reported it was Zub's camp that delayed talks but I do not believe that as the case.

With this term and pricetag, Chychrun could still very much be a possibility still. Or another solid defender.

Also means we could very well keep DeBrincat as well.

Bruce Garrioch nailed it!

What is that, less than 24 hour from when he said otherwise? :biglaugh:

This was a no brainer deal that the team had to get done.
The love Zub gets reminds of Volchenkov, he was a fan favourite and one of the more popular players, it had to get done and it did. Well done Sens!
