I think he's easilyba 5.5 million x 6 year player, maybe even a 6 million dollar player. He's hugely important, so let's get it done please.

The supposed plyer we’re looking for is closer to Zub than Chychrun. We’re not a better team with that swap.
Agree, I think JBD is closer to Zub & probably exactly what Sanderson will need as a partner next season. If they were to go after another RD I would like to see them get a big tough mobile 3rd pairing RD like Scott Mayfield to patrol our blueline & pair him with Kleven in future.

Mayfield is going to get paid like a 2nd pairing guy. Id steer clear.

On one hand that could be good news knowing he hasn't refused a serious offer. On the other hand, I'm not entirely sure how high Dorion is on Zub. He even said (who knows how much is lip service) that Zub was given a two-year deal because they expect JBD/Thomson to eventually be ready. Letting Zub walk would undo a lot of good Dorion has done.

Even if we get Chychrun and Zub walks, I'm not exactly thrilled.

Trading assets for Chychrun while let Zub walk as a UFA would be astoundingly stupid.

Can you imagine Chychrun blocking Ovi's shot with his hand???

Not as much as Chychrun will cost & Mayfield can play more roles.
Mayfield is going to cash in this summer on a deal similar to Zub IMO. He would fit on our 3rd pair behind Zub and JBD.

Maybe, we'll see, he's a good player so good for him if he does. He's exactly the kind of player we need on our backend IMO.

I really REALLY want to see Zub re-signed, he's a beast and an absolute fan favorite... gonna be tight though.
I think he is going to test free agency and get paid top dollar (he deserves that shot), so my hopes aren't very high.

He would turn 33 right before the final season.
So you are saying we should sign him for 8 years?

He is the type of player that will age gracefully. He is so smart and smooth that even if his skating slows a bit he would be a strong defender and if he is pushed down the line-up that $4.5 won't look bad in 5 more years.

Doubt we get him that low but I have no issues with having him be a core player for a long time.

I don’t like 8 year term for good not great players. 6 is my max.

Ya, was being cheeky there but personally, after this much time watching his game I wouldn't have a problem with it (at that number or slightly higher).

Put it this way - if I am going to worry about him regressing 6 or 7 years from now and having to deal with that over losing and having to replace him next year I choose the extra years of a contract without hesitation.
