On the plus side, Zub doesn't put up a lot of points so I think his contract could be manageable.

I would expect that to change next season. With better forwards and defense in general we should spend more time in the Ozone and he's able to move the puck and place it well for redirections. When Sanderson make his way here Zub will be playing with either him or Chabot, two guy who drive the play significantly. Pair Zub with Chabot for a year with a more solid forward group and I think you extract 35-40 pts out of him. He'll be in a great position for his next deal with him being our best RHD.

Hopefully we can keep him in that 5M range.

Can we extend him now? ;)

Dorion will trade him. Because there is a little bit of a beef between two of them. When the organization is agreeing to walk you to a free agency, with less then Zaitzev's contract, it pissed Zub greatly. He felt the Sens looked at him as a replaceable piece and he does not fit into their future plans. And he wanted simply Zaitzev's money for 5 years and Dorion blew it, showing disrespect to his talents and how important he is. Another Dorion's sharted pants. There so many...........what a f*ck!

Him and his agent used the sens to land in the NHL and are looking for the LA NY lifestyle.

No, I don't.

I see a guy who likes to stay at home with his girlfriend. I'm not sure why NY or LA appeals.

Your right he called dorion 35 times pleading for a longer contract and Dorion being the cheap ass he is just said no.
I mean Dorion has decided not to pay anyone fairly in the last 4 years, not a penny wasted not a dime thrown at anyone who chooses to stay.
Nope just more stupid Dorion refusing to pay anyone, like when he wouldn't pay White and Chabot or Murray, Batherson no Brady.
He just won't commit, Am I doing this right?

There is no way Dorion decided to walk his only good right handed Dman to UFA by choice.

What does any of that have to do with Zub wanting to live in LA or NY?

Do you have a source? Seems to me it was a veteran move by Zub, he knows how good he is, he likely wanted to get walked to UFA lol. How you spin this is hilarious. He knows he is getting paid and this was the easiest way. I agree the sens should have extended him far longer and paid him more. Do you know for a fact Ottawa wasnt trying to extend him? Can you prove what you are saying in any way? I have a hard time believing any of it with your post history, I dont like Dorion either but some of the stuff you say just isnt based on any facts other than a distorted opinion.

Veteran move to be traded. LOL Zub is 4,5-5 million player in this league right now and that's the money he asked long term. That is his ceiling. Because this league contracts are solely based on produced points. Zub is a 30 to 40 points a year player and now will cash in for up to 6 million a year as UFA. Senators have no chance to extend him and he has all the leverage now. And that's why he will be traded at the end of the next season for a second rounder. If Dorion trades him this summer it is a first top ten round pick. There are just almost none top quality RHD in this league. It is very hard task to develop them, if they do not come as top ten talent in a draft.

Is that fact, or you made it up, would like to see a link.

This post didn't answer any of my questions. So what you said was just your opinion? You made it sound like you knew for a fact. Basically you made up a fictional scenario based on nothing but your opinion and emotions? If not please provide proof.

Re: The bolded, You quoted my post it was a veteran move to get walked to unrestricted free agency at the youngest possible age. I didn't say to get traded. It's the way he can maximize what he is going to be paid.

For defensemen contracts are not solely based on production and points, there are countless examples. However for some clarification and an easy example for a former Senator. Mark Methot was paid 5 + to be a shut down d man.

Lastly the sens do have a chance to sign him, in fact they have the best chance because they get a full year head start to negotiate. It's not ideal but it's the truth.
We don't know what will happen with him or what he is going to be traded for. Hopefully he is extended. The only thing I agree with is that it was a mistake to not lock him up long term.

I, for one, would be very hesitant to trade Artem Zub for a 9th or even an 8th round pick.

Is there any reason why they couldn't sign Zub to a contract this summer for 3 to 5 yrs? Why would this be hard to do even if he asks for $4 or $5 mil? There are plenty of other guys they can & could move to make up that money that they don't need.

Colin White comes to mind immediately & with Watson, Sanford, J. Brown, Forsberg, Holden, Ennis & Tierny all UFAs who could be dealt by the TDL there should be plenty of money. Tierny & Sanford alone frees up over $5 mil. There are also a few RFAs they could move to save even more money like Mete, Bishop & Gaudette although they will need to replace some of these guys likely with at least a couple of ELCs & league minimum salaries.

Sign Zub to a 5-6 year extension, draft Nemec or Jiricek, and then trade one of Thomson/JBD in a package for an offensive winger. That'd be a great outcome.

This is what trump's tweets would read like if he had a longer character limit.

I’m concerned that Zub may have had no interest in extending beyond his controlled years ?
