I thought he was just an upright skating off the glass and out guy. But he is so composed when he has the puck. Super crisp flat passes on the tape and usually makes the right play. In the o-zone he has some really strong decisiveness with the puck. Never bobbles it. Kind of reminds me a of Markov a bit. I’d be happy to give him 5x6m at this point. It’s like his agent told him “play a simple game and NHL coaches will love you and you will stick” but seems to have really built on that. Super impressive development I’m sure the Pierre’s are keeping his agents very warm.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the 2 year deal but I also am willing to see the outcome before I judge.

From my perspective, Zub uprooted his entire life not along ago and came to a country where he doesn’t speak the language - he is just now getting more comfortable with his teammates and surroundings. I don’t think he’d want to leave as a UFA unless we don’t give him market value… considering Dorion is watching this mess of a d-core every night, I have a hard time believing he won’t see that Zub needs to be retained and do what he needs to do.

Was only able to watch the first and last ~10 minutes of the game due to work today. But wow Zub really impressed me on the 6 on 5 at the end of the game with how he was able to find seams through the defence for a couple passes into the slot or across the ice.

He is a legit complement to a 1st pairing defenceman but definitely not a 1st pairing D on his own. Hopefully we lock him up this summer at maybe 5 x 5.

A complement is a guy like Methot, Zub on the other hand is one of the best defenseman to have thrown on a Senators jersey in the last 15 years.

Someone could easily pay him 6 and he'd be worth it.
