Again, he looks like a 6M defensemen.

You have to think that Zub would have accepted a 4 year 4 mill contract, go even richer if we have to.

So why did we not make it? I have a bad feeling he gets poached when he is EXACTLY what we need.

With what defenders are going for ,he is likely to sting ...Maybe not 9 mil but could see 6 to 7 if he keeps trending the way he has

No Lube Zub is my fav Russian player since the A-Train Anton Volchenkov, and Zub is looking to be the better player. He is without question the best defensive dman on the team, and the best since Methot (Zub is better).

Love the Zub chant by fans!

I see him sign a Brando Carlo type of extension. 6 years/ 4.1M AAV
Thinking everyone in Ottawa would offer up a pen for him to sign that..Lol But we really shouldnt wait on him he is just going to get more expensive

He’s still under contract for 2 years.. we can’t give him an extension until the end of the year..

TBH, imagine we game him 4 x 4 and he sucked. Resigning Brady to 8+ and then Norris + Bath + Stu would have been tough pill to swallow for EM with Bobby's 3M or so also on the books the last couple years and 1 M or so going forward. Not to mention the "recent" gamble on White.

The way he's played basically every game isn't a fluke though and I mean he's a Russian National team Olympian even before that.

You can't fake the level of ice cold killer that Zub is. Just a great player, who never looks like he is under pressure.

4 m is probably his floor as a player. Getting him on that would have been incredible and one of the best contracts in the league.

Yea I think it's not the worst idea. Even for Zaitsev he wasn't nearly as good after he got his contract. It was a short sample size in a weird shortened season. He looked great but it wasn't really hard to stand out of the pack with this defense. I think they wanted to keep him motivated and we'll have a better idea of where things stand in 2 years when Sanderson, JBD, Thomson and others develop. I will say though, the more he plays the more he looks like a better Methot. I think we should enjoy him while he's here because he's making it harder and harder for future contract negotiations.

As you're saying, I think it's easy to look back and say we should've given him a long term deal now but things could've went south.

I like Zub but I don't think there's a big risk of him getting a monster deal. D men that really get paid post points and play the PP. I don't see Zub doing either and it limits the upside for him contract wise.

He shoots right, and is really good defensively there will be a bidding war on free agency.

It was obvious he was really good it was a massive blunder to not sign him long term. No idea how anyone compares this situation to Zaitsev. Because they are Russian and defense I guess. Eye test showed how good he was last year. He made Mike Reilly look good. An impossible feat.

Oh yeah he is going to get 6 +

Zuuuuuuuuuub

The phenomenon started in the home opener against Toronto and has grown exponentially with each passing home game. When it first occurred, the Senators players on the bench took notice and immediately wanted to clarify to their teammate that he wasn’t being booed each time the puck found its way onto his stick.
“We all knew they were saying ‘Zuuuuub’, but we needed to make sure he knew they weren’t booing him,” said Nick Holden. “He’s all good with that. I think we all knew what they were doing.”
Holden acknowledged, however, he wasn’t sure if the message was received by Zub when it was delivered.

“Sometimes, I think we say stuff to him and he kind of looks at us like, ‘I don’t really know what you just said to me,’” Holden said with a laugh.
On Sunday, Zub was asked if he was surprised by the newest tradition inside the arena in Ottawa.

“The fans, ‘Zuuuub?’” he asked with a big smile on his face. “It’s just fun and it’s good for me.”
