Blais is injury prone and Buch isn't.

That's true, but the play itself kind of defies being injury prone. Subban nearly ended Reaves' season/career with the same intentionally dirty play.

I'm not saying that we wouldn't be better with Buch; it was a bad trade. But if we're going to look at how much better we'd be with Buch, then we also should consider what having Blais in the lineup would mean.

I actually think that if Blais had stayed healthy and gelled in the top6 like it looked like he was going to do, people would be claiming that we're better with him than Buch.

Forgetting about injuries Blais was more of a good looking than a productive player. He hits everything that moves and has skill but he just doesn't produce that much.

Yeah, and I definitely don't think he'd be producing at Buch level. But if he had been a Copp-like presence on that line all season... that's pretty damn good.

Buch may not be a big improvement to our overall competitiveness in place of that.

That's the thing he clearly has skill but Copp has managed to produce even was Winnipeg and I think it was at a much better rate than Blais. Maybe I'm wrong I'm not looking at the numbers.

No, not at all. There's no guarantee that Blais would have stuck on the second line or started producing at a better rate.

I'm just playing devil's advocate. Without that dirty play by Subban, a lot of these conversations could be very different.

I think the trade was bad, but with how Blais was playing prior to the injury, I could see why Drury targetted him. In a lineup that already errs on the side of skill, there is a bit of extra value to having a Blais-type in the top6.

Swap Buch out for an injured Blais, and we become a contender. Swap him out for a healthy Blais, and we may get a little better; but I'm not sure if there would really be much difference.

Blais can only dream of being a Copp-like player, IMO. He's not that good.

Yeah, and they're very different players anyway.

I meant it moreso that he could just be the guy with Panarin-Strome who is able to retrieve pucks and get open. If it was last season, I may have said 'Blackwell-type' haha

Are people really arguing Blais would be as good as Buch lmao, the guy has a career high of 15pts. Buch has 8pts in his last 3 games. This season alone Buch is on pace for more than double the number of points Blais has in his entire career.

No.

I'm saying that bringing Buch into the lineup now would be a huge improvement. Bringing him in place of a healthy Blais would be much less of an improvement.

We look at the current lineup and say that having Buch would make us a contender, but without the fluke injury to Blais, then the trade wouldn't hurt as much right now.

Somebody is gonna seriously injure Stutzle one day. It’s gonna be like the Beagle/Ducks incident. This guy does nothing but dive and flop all over the ice.

I feel like Carolina is going to continue to struggle to win a cup playing a kind of boring style.
It's great they're stout defensively and hard to play against and control the puck a lot but it just feels like their goal is to grind their way to wins and they lack some creativity that is needed in todays NHL

could be totally wrong but so much of their offensive zone control is boring shit
