I love how there are still people that are convinced this season is an anomaly for the Isles when in reality it was the last two seasons that were the anomaly. Are people really forgetting how terrible they were pre-Trotz? Like one man can magically fix that forever...
I think it's perfectly OK to think that neither is/was an anomaly.
They were a rock solid but ageing team. They deserved their deep runs by being well coached, well positioned, and they capitalized on their chances when they needed them. I thought they had one more year in terms of being good enough in the regular season and then all bets are off in the PO. The factors of this year for them accelerated their decline one year early, which was GREAT news for us. We are hopefully going to replace them this year in the PO, rather then next.
Probably slight edge to us playing the Pens. Not sure of SOS for both teams but Canes are better than the Pens and should win the division.
Hopefully we get the 2nd seed and home ice if that means much?
Two deep runs with an old roster and little time off from the end of last season and the start of this one?
this season was predictable AF from them. They won’t do anything of note for a LONG while.
Home ice would mean a ton, but I think 2nd seed will be really tough. We need to not only hold pace with both Car and Pitt the rest of the way, BUT also take our head to head with them. It's all doable but a tall order since I think both teams are better than us ultimately this year.
The playoffs are going to be a massive massive test for this young team and Gallant.

Parise with 4 goals. Palmeri with 4 goals making $5M + 3 more years. Pageau with 15 points in 40 games making $5M/yr + 4 more years. You hate to see it.

Disagree. IMO Carolina is going to win the division and we are likely to play Pitt in the first round. The only way we play Carolina in the first round is if we drop to a wild card. Either way it's going to be very tough although I would rather play Pitt.
Yeah Car is more likely to win the Metro due to their insane D, but I think it will go down closer than we think. I'm betting that Pitt makes the ECF and honestly wouldn't surprise me if they won the Cup.

You think more highly of them than I do. I think Carolina, Florida, Tampa, and Toronto are all better. We are 1 point behind them with 2 games in hand. Their roster isn't all that great and that amazing run they were on includes a lot of weaker competition. They would be tough to play against but we can beat them. I don't think we would beat Carolina though.
I do, it's a gut almost PTSD like feeling for me with Pitt.
the demise of the Isles is so enjoyable to watch, Lou has become Mike Milbury 2.0.
