Do you mean by eligible "Not released by their team"? Because based on age, they were
i know they are under 20 but I think its bullshit that a player with a full season of NHL experience should play in the WJC. I mean besides Dach who in the entire tournament was an NHL regular? It's like bringing in a ringer. There should be a maximum games cutoff.

The NHL and IIHF have nothing to do with each other though. SHL regulars Holtz and Raymond were playing, as was Liiga regular Lundell. It's no different.

And the NHL has already begun with sponsorships on helmets. I mean, I can think of countless situations where teams/leagues had sponsors and dropped them, forewent naming rights deals for stadiums, whatever. But I don't really care about this enough to fight over it, so, I guess we'll just see.

And it doesn't bother me either way, even if it's permanent.
Teams and leagues almost never drop sponsorship deals. Quite the contrary, they chase money down the street. They love the smell of money.

In my career I placed over $500 Million in sports team sponsorships and I never once was evicted. There were times I couldn’t meet the new price for a promotion I had currently sponsored. In every case, the vendor put together an alternate package for my companies.

Most of the helmet deals are being signed by existing major sponsors of teams. The sponsor representatives who do those deals are treated like royalty and can always find more money for great opportunities.

Jerseys that are sold to fans wouldn't have those sponsorships on them. Look at international teams. Team USA jerseys for instance, don't have a Chipotle patch on the sleeves, and team Finland jerseys don't have a Finnair patch
NBA jerseys do.

I was still working when the first pitch for the Lakers jersey patch came through. It promised international exposure, all game and replica jerseys (including shirtsies) and a ton of other goodies. Opening price? $15,000,000 annually for 5 years.

Sad. But also accurate.

Some minor leagues, like the ECHL have sold jerseys with the sponsorships as well.

I don’t know how common the practice is, or the financials behind it though.

Not a big Laine guy so this seems like a bad deal for the Canes from my perspective.
I hope this happens. A deal around Laine for Pesce and Necas is hilariously in favor of Winnipeg. Winnipeg may get Pesce, but Necas seems to and should be an absolute nonstarter.

also, if that's the price for Laine we should have PLD or someone better in the bag when the time comes. If we wanted Laine we'd smash that deal too.
Just sayin'

Laine would be deadly with Aho and Teravainen. Those two are amazing playmakers who are defensively responsible and Aho is a dual threat. Laine would surely hit his ceiling and be an elite goal scorer in Carolina. But taking Pesce off that D group hurts. He’s a Lindell type. Under appreciated shutdown guy. Necas could be a stud but won’t be a Laine. I’m not huge on Laine, but I have a hard time seeing less than 40/70 with him in Carolina. And Svechnikov on the next line?

But Pesce is a problematic piece. On paper it seems like a good deal but Hamilton is the only other RHD on the roster and is also a pending UFA. Svech and Laine also need new deals this summer. Would be tough to work; they’d have to find a way to dump one or two of Neiderreiter/Gardiner/Skjei, IMO.

I think they could survive without Pesce, and that lineup could really use a goal scorer. Carolina scored 222 goals, which is pretty good, but their first line score. 1/3 of them (and 1/2 of those were scored by Aho, shooting at 18.4%).

They don’t have any bad forwards, but they’re too-heavy with not much threat in the middle-six. Foegele, Dzingel, Fast, Staal, Niederreiter, Trocheck...those guys all scored like ~10 goals each last season.

Plus if Pesce plays with Skjei he’s not going to be that valuable anyway.
