I think they could survive without Pesce, and that lineup could really use a goal scorer. Carolina scored 222 goals, which is pretty good, but their first line score. 1/3 of them (and 1/2 of those were scored by Aho, shooting at 18.4%).
They don’t have any bad forwards, but they’re too-heavy with not much threat in the middle-six. Foegele, Dzingel, Fast, Staal, Niederreiter, Trocheck...those guys all scored like ~10 goals each last season.
Plus if Pesce plays with Skjei he’s not going to be that valuable anyway.

Fleury - Pesce should be their middle pairing. Fleury seems to be emerging as a pretty solid #4 but will probably play bottom pair until Brindy gets tired of Skjei. The middle six, as you said, is problematic. But if Pesce is moved you have Skjei and Gardiner as a second pair unless they give Fleury the minutes and he’ll still be saddled with one of them even then.
