I honestly thought the whole tournament that Canada's offense wasnt that impressive, i mean they ran up the score on Germany but they seemed to take an awful lot of perimeter shots and as much as people like Cousins or Byfield, I don't see them as individual difference makers not like I see Lafreniere or even Zegras. All the hype up here in Canada talking about this being an unreal team was mind boggling to me. I liked what i saw from Schneider and i honestly thought he should have been their matchup for the USA top line. Berard looks good, would have been nice to see Robertson, Hendrickson and Skinner play. Overall USA imo was the best team in the tournament and proved why last night...congrats.

I thought Mercer was good?
I thought Mercer was good in the same way berard was good. Not saying he was bad, but he didn’t flash anything amazing, which again isn’t a big deal all things considered. I saw much more from some of the other 2020 draftees and I’m just happy at the moment none of the three first rounders from the devils had a major impact on their respective teams.

What do you guys figure the timeline looks like for Schneider ....3 years more or less ?
2020-21: WHL (though he might just end up in the AHL)

2021-22: AHL

2022-23: AHL/NHL (could be a mid-season call-up, or quite frankly I would not be surprised if he actually starts the season in the NHL --- especially if he has a year and a half in the AHL at that point).

2023-24: NHL

Edge,

Schneider isn't eligible to play in the AHL this season. Still needs to complete his 4th full junior season

it was reported the other day that guys might be allowed to play in the AHL this year if there is no junior season (had to be draft eligible last year so 2021 picks can't). with the uncertainty that the WHL season will happen we'll see...sort of like they did during the 2004 lockout.

Yes, but as of now, it still looks like the WHL will have a (shortened) season

Right now several teams, including the Rangers, are operating under the assumption that WHL and OHL players will be allowed to be assigned to the AHL in February as long as those leagues are not in competition yet. As of my latest update, that's how they're approaching their training camp at the moment.

This is correct. My understanding is that if the WHL and OHL begin play, the NHL clubs would have to either keep those kids on the NHL roster or assign them back to the junior team.

In that case, depending on timing, Schneider could go from the AHL to the WHL back to the AHL depending on how the seasons unfold.

Robertson is being eyed for the same thing.

is schneider slide eligible for this year since he didn't sign before new years? or does that just effect next season? just thinking of a scenario where if the WHL is a complete mess they opted to keep him on the taxi squad to practice in ny even if he doesn't get into games

I bet Antropov has been saying the word "hello" since Monday.

Fine, even a decade later I still miss "Antropov is slow" humor. Sue me.

Schneider hasn’t even signed his ELC yet right? Should we expect that to be coming shortly?

They should have signed him before Dec 31st so his ELC could slide. If they were looking into a scenario where Schneider was playing in the AHL this season, they failed here IMO in terms of preserving valuable contract years.

On that I have no insight into their reasoning or mindset. Your guess is as good as mine.

True, i feel like the team was loaded with similar type players, like who was their deadly sniper, or ultra skilled guy? USA had Kaliyev and Caufield (although the latter did nothing) and Turcotte, Boldy, and Zegras all play a different style of game. Zegras is also more skilled than any Canadian forward, they were relying on Cozens to the their go to guy but he's not at that level. I guess Dach would have helped but he shouldn't have been at the tournament anyway. They missed Lafreniere.

Who also wouldn't have been there under normal circumstances.

And the US missed Jack Hughes and Nick Robertson
