The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates

What to do, what to do, what to do?

  • Stand pat, let the current team figure it out

  • Get a starter

  • Get a backup goalie

  • Improve the 3rd pair

  • Get a top4 D

  • Get a scoring winger

  • Upgrade the bottom6

  • Get a 2C

The obvious needs are top 4 LD and a 2C. Maybe I am crazy, but neither of these feel like deadline moves. They feel far more like offseason moves with more teams in the trade market. We have been looking for a solid 2C since 2016. I am not expecting this player to all of a sudden materialize at the 2025 deadline when only bad teams are trading those players.

Realistically for this deadline I would like to see us improve the bottom pair and add a beefy bottom six forward for depth. Do this on the cheap and save the real trade powder for the offseason.

It would take a lot for me to think breaking up Edvinsson-Johansson is a good idea.
This times a million.

It's comical to me...Some here suggesting we break up Ed/AlJo...Comical to me that some suggest trading AlJo while 'his value is high' for another 'better Dman'.

Ed/AlJo IMHO looks to be the 2nd coming of Kronner/Stewie - as in the best legit 2nd pairing Dmen we've had in years.

Why in the world would anyone want to break this up? Oh that's right - ASP - a guy who hasn't played a game yet here in N.America 🤨

I can't see a move for a top 4 D. The org trusts Chiarot way more than we do.

A move to get Holl off the ice I could see and would welcome it. Connor Murphy from Chicago intrigues me the most, but the cost is probably too much for a guy who will slot on the 3rd pair.

Center depth has to be considered. Ras should be back at some point, but we are playing with fire right now. If the org isn't going to promote Danielson, which is fine, they have to at least try to see if there is a fit out there. Personally, I would love for the Islanders to start a fire sale and for Stevie to swindle Lou for Bo Horvat. He would be a perfect slot in on 2 C with DeBrincat and Kane. But that is mostly a pile dream.

Since I had him pegged as well, I think Martinez is a great idea. :P Can look after Gustafsson and can still fill in in the top4 if needed. I'd leave Edvinsson-Johansson alone for now as well.

Got ROR (4,5) as well. Then Schmaltz (5,8/UTAH), McCann and Oleksiak (5 and 4,6/SEA). All of them have at least 1 more yr on their deals.

I think it's just harder to upgrade on Chiarot than people want to give it credit for. Nearly anyone we put out there with Seider for 20+ minutes a night, against the matchups that pair typically eats all of the time, are going to show their warts from time to time. All of the guys we talk about going after this summer, they're different, but I'm not sure they are necessarily better.

edit: and if they are better, I'm not sure the amount of upgrade will justify the cost.

I wouldn't mind the Schenn-brothers, if they really want to play in the same team one again, they could be cheap to acquire.

2nd 2025 + 3rd 2026 + Tarasenko + Veleno - > B.Schenn
3rd 2025 + 4th 2026 + Viro -> L.Schenn

Fun fact:

Both played junior hockey in Saskatoon Redwings

This. Posters seem to think that the league is stocked with a ton or really good defensemen and that they are readily available. If they were easy to come by, our defense wouldn't suck. We aren't the only organization with plugs on the backend.

I lean towards no because of prices but then think about if we added a little something last time it may have given us that extra point needed to get in.

So I guess I can be persuaded either way.

If it's anything more than a 3rd or a kid like... Iunno... Willy Wally, the return better be of significant value for at least 3-5+ years. Dropping a 2nd or a 1st for just this season is insanity.

agree completely. If a great long term move opens up, I'm all in. But as far as specific help for this playoff run..give me a 3rd pair D and a grinder and don't give up anything more than a 3rd (of which we have 2 this year).

I think if one can get someone like Noah Dobson for a not overkill return I would do that.
Obviously a 2C would be nice, just not sure there is a fit out there.

Chandler Stephenson would be a nice player, but his contract is too long.
Nick Schmaltz as a shorter term solution.

The islanders trading away Dobson would be like us trading away Seider.

Its not gonna happen, and they have every right to ask for a haul if it were to happen.

I wouldn't get NYI dealing Dobson...but I also don't get them reportedly trying so hard to re-sign Nelson. They have cratered this season, what they have really does not seem to be working...so deal Nelson off. Deal Palmieri off. See if you can find a market for Pageau. You still have Barzal and Horvat up front, your blueline and goalie situation still looks good...Deal these guys who aren't getting it done for you now, stock some assets, and look to make some waves over the summer.

Pittsburgh and Nashville also seem like teams who should be pounding 4 Sale signs into their front lawns.

Improve the 3rd D pair and I'm good.

A line with Cozens, DBC and Kane will go to +/- territory of AA.
