It's an absolutely horrible trade for the Pens. Dubas hosed Rutherford.

15OA for Kapanen, by itself, is awful.

But to give up Hallander and Rodriques, a top prospect and a capable Bottom 6 guy, on top of that for waiver wire fodder?

Bruh...

Its not "awful". You're not guaranteed to get a player as good or better than Kapanen at 15, and even if you do you won't reap the rewards for several years. Pittsburgh is in hardcore win-now mode. Kapanen helps them more than the 15th ever could. I also have a feeling Pittsburgh isn't done wheeling and dealing. They need to tweak that supporting cast.

Makes me curious as to what Buchnevich could fetch.

Not looking to move him, but it makes me wonder.
I didn't not believe the rumors going around last draft day about what teams were thinking about giving up for him, but something like this really makes that value seem all the more plausible

I could see it going awhile. If the Islanders fall behind in a game, there goes their whole plan.

To be fair, the isles were down against the caps in both games 1&2 and came back and won. The isles don’t get rattled and just stick to their game plan and eventually it pays off. Trotz is really good at keeping the team playing their game no matter the score.

The Leafs trolling Montreal with the 15th pick right before montreal's 16th overall

I just posted elsewhere that i think Buch, Howden, and a 3rd rounder would have been my offer for 15th OA and Hollander, and would have been better than what PITT actually got.

Walkng away from this draft with something like Laf, Guhle, and Brisson would have been icing our our rebuild cake.

You can be in a "hardcore win-now mode" while still being smart about what your assets are worth.

Rutherford drastically overpaid and being in a "hardcore win-now mode" isn't a viable excuse. End of story.

You can still easily get two of the three and I know Guhle is getting some high grades but we do have Miller and Robertson who are mobile and big. Heck Guhle drops to 22ish grab him and find a way to trade into bottom first early second to get Brisson albeit I know it won't be easy to trade back into late first/early second.

Agreed. I like Buch but I don’t have a problem moving him if the return is really good. Bad yeah this is an odd move by the Pens giving up the 15 overall pick in a deep draft class for an ok player

They dump a 3.2m cap hit, while acquiring a 15th overall pick, a good center prospect and a cheaper option for the bottom 6, while giving up Lindgren who will most likely never make it to the NHL, and Åberg who is in the KHL and will be UFA on July 1st, without having the chance to sign him unless he opts to go to KHL free agency.

I get why Rutherford wants to acquire Kapanen, but the return is what makes this a bad trade

Grotans asleep at the wheel again
another finesse soft player is what NYR does not need. maybe someone like Domi or Mantha someone that fills a need. more skilled physical players are needed. another of this pond hockey crap. 4th line upgrade as well and will Fast be resigned or his right's traded at the draft?
