Yep, I took a quick look at the standings and we aren’t in a wild card spot. Not real surprising given how things have gone more recently.

No idea what Staois will do, but I’d be nervous about a knee jerk reaction that overly aggressively tries to salvage the season. The best path or event to get back into the playoffs again is to get our players (forwards) healthy again.

I see some threads about trading both Tkachuk & Norris in a package. I guess that’s not impossible, but I think trades of that magnitude are pretty rare. Timing is going against the Senators though as Brady’s NMC kicks in next season. Tough situation. The other thing I’d wonder about is selling low (dumping him) on Norris. I’d wonder how things would look after a bit more time let’s say if he stays healthy, plays the remaining games this season and is productive?

I understand the sentiment but Staios doesn’t strike me as someone who will make kneejerk reactions. I wouldn’t be worried about it. I think they will add someone like a guy that can play around the lineup and bank on injured players returning. We are also handcuffed without a first rounder so I don’t see any big moves coming our way. Some tweaks and some depth, absolutely.

The real changes will be made this offseason. I could see a Norris or Batherson getting traded but it won’t be done middle of the season.

So with 25 games left to go, I asked ChatGPT to find the best 25 game stretch for this team during the current season.

It did a real shit job of trying to figure that out, but in trying to work with it, I think the best they've done is 16-8-1.

That should be just enough to get us into the show.

Now, I for one feel pretty pessimistic these days, so I'll say the next two games are losses. Which means, we're gonna need to go around 16-6-1 for the last 23.

It is so over.

Ya, true. Nothing Staois has done thus far gives the impression he’d be rash. He seems pretty methodical.

As far as which players might get traded, I won’t try to guess. I think I’ll just watch & see what happens.

Hopefully Columbus beats Detroit on Saturday too.

Obviously it helps CBJ pull ahead a bit but also would help us catch Detroit, especially if we win our game coming up against them too.

Looks like Columbus overtook Ottawa with their rebuild. Better vets and a better younger core.

They also experienced an unspeakable tragedy and have dealt with some major injuries. Their captain Boone Jenner has missed the whole year, Yegor Chinakov most of the year, Sean Monahan has been out for weeks, and Kent Johnson has missed a fair amount of games.

Meanwhile in Ottawa Josh Norris goes out and the team falls apart.

Would've been smart to hire Dean Evason when we had the chance.

It’ll take a miracle to make the playoffs.

Neck and neck with the Rangers and the Habs and multiple players injured. Brady played harder in that tournament than he ever has in a Sens jersey and now missing games because of it. Pinto and Norris won’t be 100% when they come back. We’ll get smoked by the Caps next. 6 point out will be extremely tough to climb out of with 23 games left.

Staios playing the waiting game instead of helping the team.

Not looking good folks.

It feels like yesterday we were thinking a division spot was possible and now we are 10 points back. The FL trip just smoked us and then limping out of the gate after the 4Nations and we are in a clear danger zone.

The Sharks have been playing well, so what seemed like free bingo spots on the card to finish the season are now pressure filled, "must have" games. It's crazy how quickly this season flipped.

That said...the boys were looking very good up until Norris and Pinto went down. If they can step in and give a boost and Ullmark can be consistent, there is no reason we can't win a few in a row and get back to a Wildcard spot.

Nahhhh
Our injuries are far worst than theirs you know...

The best 25 game stretch we've had was right before the current batch of injuries, 16-7-2, a 111 pts pace, but we actually had been playing at that pace for the previous 33 games,

Our season is going to rely on us getting healthy and beating the teams that we are battling for those final spots. Healthy, we are definitely capable of playing at that level, they question to me is more whether when Pinto Norris and Tkachuk get back in the line, will they be running on all cylinders or in limp mode.

What this has demonstrated is that our cupboard is bare from all those years of Dorion shipping out picks with dumb trades that didn't work out. We have zero depth. I hope by the time our new arena opens we have a good up and coming young core to be excited about.

I think we're probably a year away from needing to do a real big rebuild, properly this time.

They'll make a big trade to try to retool before they go scorched earth again

With what assets? Are they gonna trade Yak and/or next year's pick for someone who will upgrade us at a position or two enough?

I agree that's what they would want but we have basically no assets that'll land us anything like that. If we did move Norris, for example, we're just creating holes in our lineup that nobody else can step into.

The only asset on the team who might be interesting for other teams who we could maybe afford to let go of is Giroux, but I don't see teams who wanna upgrade being willing to give us a clear upgrade on him if they're competing for a cup. We may be able to do a trade like that for a pick that we could then add do some other deal, but again we don't have the depth.

I hope to be surprised by the deadline, just not seeing how that happens.
