Was a great Ranger

He was one of my favorite Rangers during that era. Being in my early 20s at a time when that group broke in ~ McDonagh, Stepan, Kreider, Hagelin, and even Boyle, was something I will never forget. It was invigorating watching those guys play. They had come on not long after Staal/Girardi/Dubinsky/Callahan had broken in. It made for quite the group to root for.

But Hagelin was an exciting player. Blue collar with blazing speed. Wish we never traded him. We never really replaced him.

No, but watching that team last year was like staring into the ark of the covenant. Not even Zegras could save viewership, lol.
So it is simply because they suck and not some eye candy leaving. Plus, Zegras' Michigans/60 was down.

Ah shit, Pens got younger yesterday... they signed Hajek to a PTO...

Revenge tour incoming. We're real f*cked now.
This is gonna be a worse move in Drury's legacy than trading Buch for a plug that he wound up trading back to the original team.

Almost as bad as the McD trade. The f*ck do we still have from McD and JT Miller? Tampa almost had a f*cking 3peat after that trade. Gorts trade but Drury was there, man.

Guilt by association?

I was gonna say Hajek as the last vestige of that trade so that we come full circle.

I agree though, we are owed a cup after the Sammy Blais debacle. And now that Lizzo is canceled, imagine if Subban came back and did intermission reports during a NYR/STL cup final? Would be the ultimate Rongo scenario, the 'top of Rongo mountain' if you will.

The thing that happens as you're building or trying to build your team into contention status is it costs more and more $cap money. The Rangers moved Hagelin because it got to the point where they could no longer fit him in and he almost immediately signed with his new team for $4 mil per year which is very good money for what was a very good 3rd liner. People who complain about 3rd liner Goodrow these days----well he's making less than that several years later under a somewhat higher cap ceiling.

All that said Hagelin was a player I very much liked. As good a skater as there was in the league with a fantastic engine, speed and extreme agility. I'm not sure we've ever had a better skater. Point production was kind of hit and miss but even so he was an excellent defensive forward.
