That TML uniform on Marner is interesting. Never seen it before.

Thanks. Good info about the shoulder patch. I just looked at the NHL Uniform Database fan site. The one Marner is pictured in is a second alternate of some sort. It's got the old school shoulder yoke and the chest logo has a thin border outline that's not part of the current logo the Leafs are using.

Bookmarking this for the next suggestion that we should replace Panarin with two top sixers.
I mean, the guy had a great year, but I don't think there's any way he replicates it for even two years of that contract. Stamkos is going to slow down soon and Point can't stay healthy.

I see the main boards celebrating it as good for both sides. I disagree. Tampa is going to find a way to dump him to Arizona by 2027.

I think that Hagel deal is fine if he can stay at that level... the guy is coming off a 30 goal, +60 point season where he was 2nd in the league in takeaways.. the BriseBois deal that'd I'd be more iffy about is that Cirelli deal. Fine 2-way player.. but 6.25 Mil a year is a lot for a guy that hasn't hit the 50 point mark yet

That's a good contract for Hagel. 24 years old. 60 points. Plays all situations. Has speed and physicality. If the Rangers had just done that everyone would be happy that we locked up a good young forward to a reasonable long term deal that will look crazy low when the cap goes up.

Hagel deal is alright. I probably would have pencilled him closer to 5.5 but maybe 4 years. The term is a gamble. If he stays a 60+ point player, they locked him up at a good rate which will look better once the cap starts rising. If he reverts to a 50 point player he’s slightly overpaid for a long time. I’d take the gamble, I think, but acknowledge that it’s a gamble at the same time. Contract takes him to 31/32 which is pretty much perfect. If he can stay in the 55-65 point range they get his entire prime at a good price. Not a bargain price, but not overpaying either and certainly less than he would get on the open market from a desperate GM.

Unfortunately, I hate typing that out because I really hate the Lightning. I don’t mind Hagel or Sergachev though. Likewise, I hope Mitch Marner never hits 100 points in his f***ing life because I don’t think there is a more childish, entitled rich boy LAME in the entire league. God, this dude probably ONLY dresses in what’s on a GQ list, ONLY listens to what’s on Billboard top 100, ONLY summers on his family’s boat and at his family’s golf club, ONLY using the most recent slang that’s bussin’ fr fr, no cap and ONLY has the personality that the internet tells him is cool. While I don’t particularly love Matthews either, and he’s not exactly some trail blazing trendsetter, he clearly has some personality of his own. Marner is the f***ing definition of an NPC and I can’t stand him, which blows since he’s insanely talented.

This is kind of what I meant. I know it’s probably meant to show that he has personality of his own, but to me this is the most cringy, mainstream, top 100, bussin’ on god, fr fr type of “showing personality” that you could think of. This is the exact version of having a personality that they would program for you if you grew up a rich goody two shoes in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Ontario, rather than a personality you choose on your own via life experience and being your own person. I could be too critical in this case, but there is something - several something’s - about Marner in particular that I just can’t stand and I WISH it wasn’t the case because I generally put admiring the skill and on-ice talents of any NHL player first. I found ways to like Sid, I like Jack Hughes, I liked young Patrick Kane, I don’t mind Matthews but I simply can’t with Marner.

Haha. I relate to this far too much. I’m over here fighting a class war though, so I digress.

I’m surprised you like Hughes. He’s basically an American fratboy version of Marner.

The only reason I like Hughes is because he’s willing to wear his hair long or say something off the cuff more and seems to have a bit more confidence in being his own guy. Yes, he follows the trends, but he’s okay with saying something a bit goofy or not always being the perfect poster boy for what’s “in”. I feel like Marner would be so upset if he accidentally wore a hat that was no longer cool or the internet didn’t like his wedding dance. I guess it comes down to Hughes looks like “yeah… I ‘may’ have tried pot “once or twice” and Marner looks like “I did a beer… that’s drugs, right?”

the guy is dancing with his wife at his wedding, does it really merit a full paragraph personality diagnosis?
