So can we all just agree that playoff hockey is just luck? The Panthers are about to sweep Toronto after taking down the greatest team ever assembled. An expansion team is scoring at will against the best goalie in the league.

Panarin missed a breakaway in OT in game 3. What do these playoffs look like had that gone in?

There is ridiculous parity in this league. Every playoff team is good. It’s bounces, inches, and hot/cold streaks that decide who wins the Cup.

I guess that’s why we love it?
We're screwed then because ours is bad.

Idk, having Tkachuk, who is better than any winger we have surely helps. Underestimating other teams depths badly. Florida's top 9 is really something, compared to ours. Toronto is also cursed and has a muppet of a GM like us. We severely overrated ourselves ...

Who is that best goalie you are talking about, Oettinger? Gimme a break.
Luck is a big part, sure, but just luck? Nah man.

To think that Brad Marchand was a game 5 breakaway away from us not getting to see this Florida Panthers team compete so hard and go on this cinderella run. Their forward group is so fun to watch.

There is NO reason our group can't be fun to watch as well. The difference is that the Cats play with pace every shift. Lundell dropped in the draft because teams didn't like his clunky skating and doubted his creativity and look at him now. The Panthers move their feet and the puck. What a concept.

I don't agree it is just luck, but luck does play a huge role not just with bounces and streaks, but also injuries.

I would argue that Zito set the Panthers up for this run in the offseason by deciding to sacrifice Huberdeau and 1 year of Weegar for Matthew Tkachuk.

Luck plays a role, definitely, but to say it is all luck is dangerously close to subscribing to the 'just get to the playoffs anything can happen' approach. Rangers have been doing that for a good while now with the corresponding result.

The Tkachuk trade wasn't luck. Florida identified a need and paid the appropriate price to fill it. Canes and Seattle are following very obvious templates. Say what you will about their unwillingness to spend money, but it's hard to argue against the result. One can argue those teams appear to have more luck than their competitors because of those organizational decisions.

I really am beginning to strongly dislike the Swiss army knife approach to team building. The team just end up being mediocre overall and rely on things to lay just so in order to succeed. As the saying goes, "he who defends everything, defends nothing."

That's the playoffs for you. Off the wall random.

The Panthers are legitimately a good team tho. 58 wins last year and great underlying numbers this year.

And battle hardened after hardfought playoff bouts with nasty Tampa two years in a row.

Omg pls, plsss, Bizz is gooning it up in the broadcast too much.

I want to see him tazed so bad and thrown out the building. What a bum.
He's become more and more cringey with every broadcast. It's kind of painful to watch him interview players. He's the only downside to the TNT/TBS broadcasts. Same deal with PK on ESPN, that dude has to go.

Way to go Panthers and Kraken last night! Forgot where I saw it, but someone pointed out that the Leafs still haven't won a 2nd round playoff game in 19 years. Looks like that streak will live on!

Let's crowdsource for the City of Toronto a huge cake with icing written as HUBRIS complete with a huge plastic knife for them to cut it.
Buy ad spade on Torontos poor man’s Times Square saying We Want Florida, one of those things where a plane pulls a sign saying it. The Panthers are missing out on opportunity if they don’t start selling We Want Florida t-shirts. They should have one on every seat next game

This is actually quite a cool idea that they can use the rest of the way as a rally cry like All Caps, Smashville, etc

Just like the night of the McDavid lottery, tonight is a huge night for the future of the franchise.

Can't afford Bedard in our division.

Hell I'd almost be ready to rebuild if it happens
It would be so typical. Right as Crosby and Ovechkin ends we have to deal with Hughes and Bedard for the next fifteen years. Just kill me.

The Bruins were absolutely not the greatest team ever assembled. They had a great regular season but let's not go crazy here. The Oilers dynasty, the Islanders dynasty, the Canadiens dynasties, the 90s Red Wings teams...

The reason they lost is because they aren't as good as their regular season indicated. And an improved version of the President's trophy winning Panthers team from last year beat them.

Bruins got bounced because the first adversity they faced all year was in the playoffs and Happy go lucky Montgomery was too shellshocked to realize Swayman was the better goalie

The Lightning have to be up there at their peak also. Basically had Carter Verhaeghe as a healthy scratch.

Should have won three straight Cups.

Another ex-Ranger in the Panthers series is Tuomo Ruutu behind the Panthers bench. He's been a phenomenal player whisperer for the Finnish National teams over the last few years and it looks like his touch hasn't deserted him with the Panthers in the NHL.
