The only worthwhile players in that 35+ group are Elias, Jagr and Zubrus

You're also ignoring probable improvements from players like Josefson (22), Loktionov (23), Henrique (23), Larsson (20) and then add in one of the strongest groups of defensive prospects with guys who are ready to step in like Merrill, Urbom, Gelinas and Severson.

You forgot Zajac is due for a career year.

The thing that would worry me about the Devils up front is that they have several aging, lumbering forwards and a floating sniper who will require some speed, creativity and elusiveness to set them up for chances.

Guys like Clowe, Jagr, Ryder etc. can't do it all themselves and it will be imperative that the Henriques and Zajacs find their way onto the right lines and stay healthy for the bigger, slower wall players. I don't think you can count on Elias being the first man in on the puck every single night at his age.

It's going to be interesting to see how Deboer adapts his system to better suit his lineup. I think while they have a lot of good two way forwards who can slide up and down the lineup there won't be a bonafide #1 unit and if any injuries occur (and its likely given the Devils average age) it could throw the offensive balance out of whack.

Puck possession probably will be a strong suit when they have it, but getting it and maintaining a forecheck will prove to be difficult for them given their age and speed issues. Backchecking, transition play and trouble against speedier teams (and they'll be a lot of those) will rear its ugly head for them.

lol wut?

Merrill
Severson
Urbom
Gelinas
Scarlett
Santini
Burlon

come on man

You showed me a below average list led by "Polo Shirt" Merrill.

The Rangers have a pretty bad group of defense prospects as well, and McIlrath and Skjei slot comfortably in at #1 and #3 well above the rest of those guys.

And yes, I know every single prospect you named there. It's just not good.

I don't understand this mentality.

They've missed the playoffs 2 times in 3 years, never finishing higher than 4th in the Atlantic. They made it past the first round 1 time in 6 years. They've won 5 playoff series in the last 9 seasons.

Does their success over a decade ago really mean anything? Does "run to the cup" in '12 really hold that much weight? Anymore than Calgary's in '04 or Edmonton's in '06?

2003 was a long time ago. 10 years. The same time difference between '94 and the '04 lockout.

You don't understand that "mentality"? It's not a mentality, I've expected them to fall flat on their faces multiple times and they've been moderate to somewhat good. Think maybe you read a little too far into it. When they do fall flat I'll be ecstatic they just keep letting me down, next year looks promising though.

I hear you, but, they have missed the playoffs twice in 3 seasons.

Of course one of those years was absurd as they nearly freaking came back to make it. I was almost driven to insanity because of it.

Thank god for Erik Condra and the Senators.

The Devils are going to CORSI teams to death.

Believe it or not the Rangers were top 10 in CORSI % last year and now have AV who will be instituting a more analytic structure into the Rangers game.

But yeah, they probably will. Thing is, can they finish...

Moving away from aging lottery teams, Torts decided to hire an actual coaching staff for the Canucks.

Good for him. He is finally growing up. I never hated him...wish he would've adjusted here. Torts is a guy you can get behind, HOWEVER, he is also a guy you can quickly turn against with his antics.

Ryder 30-35 goals? Clowe a full season potting 15-20? Schneider a guarantee .920% based on a career statistic that is accumulated as backups workload? The Devils organization has a deep prospect pool? And did a devils fan come here to argue only to later post that he forgot to add Matteau to the defensemen prospect list?

Don't forget, that was that poster's "tempered" expectations for those players:laugh:
