Clowe shot 3% last year (unsustainable)
Jagr had 0 goals on 58 shots (also unsustainable)

It's not like Clarkson and Kovalchuk didn't get older either.

In Kovalchuk's NJ career he has averaged 32.8 goals per 82 games.

Looking up Ryder's stats of the past three years, his goal scoring numbers are comparable to IK.

Pretty sure Jagr and Clowe will outproduce Clarkson

Having a competent goalie who can actually stop a puck will be a nice bonus

This reminds me of the "We don't need Parise, Zajac is better" argument that abounded last year.

We saw how that turned out.

Older and Slower. The exact opposite of what all teams are trying to get.

You haven't really addressed any of the points and only look at the names they lost

The names they lost accounted for 27% of all devils scoring the last two years.

Thinking 3 older players are going to come in and replace that is ludicrous.

This is me tempering my expectations:

Jagr 15-20 goals

Clowe 15-20 goals

Ryder 30-35 goals

Schneider .920%

How is that not a major improvement from last year?

How many goals would Clowe get if he were on the Rangers?

Look, I actually like what the Devils have done this offseason to replace Kovy. 9 guys in the top 9 who are solid and somewhat interchangeable through the lineup Especially if Brunner comes as well. It could very well work out and the Devils could be a solid team this season.

But ****. You guys can't ever admit there may be some concerns. All positive. Lou is the best. blah blah blah.

BTW, Ryder getting 35 would match his career high that hes reached one time. Real tempered expectation there.

THATS called tempering your expectations?

Wow.

I would still say he would get 15-20. I understand percentages and luck

Wow.

Last full season he had 35 goals.

This year he had 16 in 46, which averages out to 29 goals.

As we know, all free agent signings who are on the wrong side of 30 and leaving their prime continue at the exact rate they did before.

Good luck with all that.

Its just amazing to me. They'd be laughing at us all offseason if the places were reversed!

Not only would they be rightly laughing at us, but they would freak out if one of our posters went to their boards to defend the moves.

I don't think it's outlandish to say the devils won't be worse then last season. But it's unlikely.

I think Clowe is really going to surprise in a negative way. His stat line may say something else, and the toughness was nice, but I thought he was complete crap in nearly every game he suited up as a Ranger.

That Ryder prediction is beyond optimistic. Not only is he aging, he's scored more then 30 goals 4 times, and his career high is 35. That's just a flat out bad prediction.

Jagr is still a good player. The problem is that he's over 40. He's not on the same decline as a guy like Ryder. The difference in his effectiveness from his season in Philly to now is colossal.

I think the Devils can be as good as they were last season. The thing that I'd be worried about is the teams future. It's a complete disaster in that regard, no matter how you slice it.

Let's not pretend like Clowe is coming off a career year. The amount of concussions he had also matched his goal total. I hear he's great in the playoffs, would have been nice to see...

I'd put money that Clowe and Ryder don't hit those numbers. Jagr i think will pot somewhere in there, mostly in the first half of the season though.

What you don't seem to get is that we as Rangers fans actually know these players (outside of Ryder). Clowe is not what he was. He might have a bounce back season but expecting him to score 20 goals is not tempering expecations.

Jagr is fantastic in the 1st half but runs out of gas in the second half as you will see. This started happening when he was on the Rangers which was quite a while ago.

Ryder is 33, he is getting older, he will not pot 35 goals. You're off your rocker.

I'd also put money that at least one of those guys won't even play in 60 games.

The team you're icing is ancient. If you expect them to all stay healthy you're in for a rude awakening.

Zubrus
Jagr
Elias
Brodeur
Zidlicky
Salvador

All these guys are 35 or over.....no way they all stay healthy.

Then you have the 30+ crew

Gionta
Ryder
Clowe
Carter
Barch
Greene
Harrold
Volchenkov

Anyway you slice it, this is a team of geezers in a league that is becoming dominated by youth.

Being old and having experience/puck possession skills was great about a decade ago, in this NHL, not so much. These guys are sure to have injuries. Not to mention guys like Zajac, Clowe, Volchenkov,Zubrus have already shown they are becoming injury prone over the past few seasons.

Honestly, it's a little embarrassing how cocky Devils fans are being. It's like serious denial. No team loses there marquee player and there second best scorer only to replace them with 3 aging vets and improves.

And I'm in the wait & see camp on Schneider. He hasn't every had a workload like the true starters in this league. 60+ games is a different animal than his career high of a whopping 33 games.

i can't edit but i just wanted to say "their" instead of "there" ha

"It takes a strong man to deny what's right in front of him. And if the truth is undeniable, you create your own."

We already established Ryder averaged 32 goals the last 2 seasons

Clowe shot 3% last year which is unsustainable. With average luck (9%) he has 9 goals in 40 games which is about 18 goals.

Jagr had 16 goals in 45 games this year........

Schneider has a career .927 save percentage.

Who is denying the truth?

22 back to backs. That doesn't bode well for older players, especially Jagr and his hip.

The only worthwhile players in that 35+ group are Elias, Jagr and Zubrus

You're also ignoring probable improvements from players like Josefson (22), Loktionov (23), Henrique (23), Larsson (20) and then add in one of the strongest groups of defensive prospects with guys who are ready to step in like Merrill, Urbom, Gelinas and Severson.

I can't imagine how the Devils fans would've reacted to the Rangers giving Clowe the deal that Lou gave him
