Devils fans are pretty confident right now. I don't know what to think about their team as it stands. They've had so much offensive turnover since their playoff run two years ago.

Out: Parise, Kovalchuk, Clarkson, Sykora, Ponikarovsky
In: Jagr, Ryder, Clowe, Olesz, Loktionov

Looking at it this way, I take the first group 10 times out of 10.

Part of me wants to see the them completely bomb out and have to forfeit a top 5 draft pick. The other part of me wants to see them remain competitive and miss the playoffs on the last day of the season.

Their teams average age is similar to Cemetery/Century Villages in Florida.

They also think they are better now than they were last year.

Like I said before, they were worse even before Kovalchuk left. Delusions of grandeur over there. Just can't handle the fact that magic man Lou is as senile as they come these days. Free agency, the draft, keeping their own players. Failures at every juncture.

If we had a GM we trusted for about 20 years, I'd like to see how quickly we'd lose faith in him.

We have the exact opposite, a GM no one here trusts, and would never trust even though he hasn't been bad recently, IMO.

It's like both GMs have been given a label of very good (Lou) and very bad (Sather) and it will never be removed from them.

It's the "Game 6 Syndrome".

Both the devils and the flyers have an incredible time believing they're contending material and somehow also believing that they're better than PIT/NYR, and each other. The grandeur prevails from the SCFs.

The Flames and Oilers got closer than either of them too. They certainly haven't been lighting the world on fire since their runs.

This is what confuses me the most. You essentially replace Kovy with Ryder/Jagr which is not in the same stratosphere and Clarkson with Clowe.

I understand where they are coming from hoping Clowe will bounce back to form, but the guy is not the same player he was in San Jose. He's not trash, but he's at best a third line player. As is Jagr at this point.

They have no superstars and honestly the only guy near a game breaker is Elias, but even he isn't very good.

Our defense and goaltending is better than theres. Stepan and Nash are light years ahead of anything they have offensively.

That team is going to suck. And if they thing there offensive leaders Jagr (41), Elias (37), Zubrus (35), Ryder (33), Clowe (32).

Then you have guys like Brodeur, Zidlicky, Salvador all pushing 40. I mean they are ****ing delusional if they think all these geezers are going to hold up over an 82 game season.

The only guys i'd have faith in are Henrique and Larsson and possibly Schneider to develop into something special.

You'll never see a Devils fan admit hes down on his team.

But thank god we're the delusional losers that cling on to the memories of our last cup win

Only partially right; the delusional losers who cling on to the memories of 1994 all work for Mr. "Duh Ah" Dolan!

Devils fans are the hipsters of hockey fans. Always with a chip on their shoulder and they love something that nobody else likes.

Wrong. That would be be passion. There is nothing wrong with loving something nobody else likes (for the most part). A hipster would be someone who feigns a love in something to seem cool despite the fact nobody else likes it. :)

Having passion for something nobody else likes is the same thing.

I feel like most Rangers fans are down and will be down until the buzzer sounds and we've one the cup. Myself included.

I've always said I prefer the negative fan to the overly positive one.

That one fan that was in the GDT's during the playoffs last year. AMI or whatever. I almost feel like she was a troll with the overly positive ******** that would be posted.

its funny though, in a lot of their games, the Devils badly out possessed and outshot the opposition, they just couldnt put the puck in the net.

they lost Kovalchuk, their best scorer by a mile...

they got worse. a lot worse. even with Schneider.

Kovalchuk was one of the worst puck possession players on the Devils. We got much better at ES.

CORSI Tied

Loktionov 63%
Elias 59.6%
Zajac 58.9%
Ryder 56.4%
Henrique 55.6%
Bernier 54.9%
Jagr 54.7%
Clowe 53.9%
Carter 53.7%
Zubrus 53.5%

Devils are going to continue to out possess and out chance the opposition. The difference is, the team shooting percentage will certainly progress towards the mean. Not sure how the team got worse from last year with the addition Schneider, Ryder, Clowe, Jagr and Olesz

Last two years Kovy and Clarkson had 93 goals

Clowe, Ryder and Jagr had 106

All of these players also got one year older. You don't automatically get past production from players going forward. Clowe had 3 goals last year. 3. Jagr no goals in the playoffs. Kovalchuk is a better player, and would produce more than all those guys combined.

You got older and you got slower. You lost a 2 guys who combined for a total of 27% of your goals over the last two years. That's how you got worse.

Clowe shot 3% last year (unsustainable)
Jagr had 0 goals on 58 shots (also unsustainable)

It's not like Clarkson and Kovalchuk didn't get older either.

In Kovalchuk's NJ career he has averaged 32.8 goals per 82 games.

Looking up Ryder's stats of the past three years, his goal scoring numbers are comparable to IK.

Pretty sure Jagr and Clowe will outproduce Clarkson

Having a competent goalie who can actually stop a puck will be a nice bonus
