Pretty much all this. I see a fellow Leafs fans is already sticking up for the Islanders, but I'm not surprised. You say one bad thing about the Islanders, and they all come after you. That Islanders team got carried by goaltending, and that is not a good way to build a team.

Systems hockey can take you a long way but rarely over the top. You always need some game breaking ability. That's the Islander's big problem right now. A great systems coach, very little game break ability. Without Trotz, that team doesn't even sniff playoff hockey (even with him in a real world they wouldn't have this year). I've always been a huge Trotz fan in that he is exactly what I want in a coach, a guy who makes teams greater than the sum of their parts. Burns was like that. Even Trotz could never succeed until he had basically an all star team. In 21 seasons, only 8 times did he win a round. Twice he has managed to win 2 rounds (once the Cup obviously). It's tough and that's with a great coach.

When discussing sports, you really see the small picture thinking people, hard to have a normal convo with them considering how irrational they are.

Islanders were FAR from a lock from the playoffs before the season ended, on top of that they traded away their 1st and 2nd picks in this years draft.

Sure they made it to the conference finals so people won't talk about it, but the fact that they didn't win is a huge blow to them.

They will have internal cap issues, no doubt, they don't generate any money.

Now they won't have picks in a deep draft to get around those squeezes.

Big RFA's coming up for them, they can't match every offersheet.

Great point. You need talent to win. A coach can make you overachieve but he won't win you the ultimate prize.

Agreed again. Islanders are really squeezed, and they have a lot of work to do to get themselves out.

Judging by his GM of the year award, there's still some country club members around the league who will probably take a contract for him

Bros before cap-woes

Islanders were shit in the regular season as well, before the league shut down they were falling apart, and they don't have a first or second round pick this year in a very deep draft. I'm putting zero stock in their performance in this years playoffs because it was different experience all together.

Those stats that Stickty posted correlate to the regular season as well.

Islanders were a shit possession team
Islanders were a shit offensive team
They were bottom five in scoring chances against per 60 minutes
They were bottom five in high danger scoring chances against per 60 minutes

Problem is most hockey fans aren't smart enough to understand this, which is why you can't have a normal conversation with them because they're already primitive thinkers, small picture people.

Islanders are a trash team, with horrible contracts and no draft picks.

What a childish remark. "Anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot"

Who happened to make the Eastern Conference finals and gave the best team in hockey a run for their money.

If you didn't notice they lost the series yesterday so no reason to be bitter. What's the point of all of this?

I personally like Tampa in finals.
There might be some injuries, but they are playing through those. They are obviously not critical type.
On the other side though Khudibin played great, but he is career backup and never had load quite like this. He must be dead tired.
And Vasilevskiy might only have tired muscles on his face from yawning wildly watching isles “hockey”. He was not at all loaded with work.
I would say Tampa is equal defensively, much better offensively with four dangerous lines and their goalie is better and fresher too.
So it should be pretty clear cut that they are favourites by big margin. They will do to Dallas what they did to Bs. Similar teams similar results.

Your team is trash, Cinderella run over, no picks coming up, bad contracts a plenty.

Have fun.

Trotz and goaltending is responsible for it. If the main reason you won is coaching and goaltending, then that shows there was a lot of luck involved.
Anyways the Islanders have a lot of things to fix, and we will leave it at that.

I think the Bolts should be the favorite heading in.

And If they get Stamkos back too, that'll be a huge boost

I agree, they had a good run, funny how some leaf fans call teams shit when they havent won a playoff series in over a decade, not one of them here, wont gloat till the leafs actually do something, Isles also have a lot of talent in the farm, and I think are still in great shape to do something special, good luck..., cant wait too face you guys next season when it begins, Go leafs Go!

What? Are you somehow implying that we are not the biggest experts in shit teams? We can tell shit team when we see one that is for sure. In fact, we are probably giving too much credit, if anything.
And for the record, I would rather play Carolina than snooze fest isles team. Just give them Dubas’s office chair as substitute for one of injured players to make it more fun.

Leddy is a trade chip, but he'd be a loss for the team

Ladd on IR would be interesting with him playing this post season, hasn't he stated he wants to keep playing?

What is Boychuk at this point? Would any team gamble on him being a mid pairing guy? Even a #5?

Ladd’s definitely a bit of a mystery. But I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Lou AHLs him into ending up on LTIR.

Boychuk isn’t much more than a filler bottom pairing defenseman, but his cap hit and lower salary could be attractive for teams who might want to reach the cap floor while paying less money. The Isles used to do this consistently.
