No they’re not spending those savings on two stars. Lots of teams have high end talent. The Oilers are spending to pay Connor Brown 4 million, 10 million for Skinner, Arvidsson, and Henrique, 2.5 million overpayment on Nurse, 5 mill on Kane, several million in dead cap from buy outs.

That too. Don't forget the 5+ mil cap hit on Kane. But I assume most teams have multiple sub-optimal or flat out bad contracts and if you have 2 superstars you are unlikely to have much left for goalies especially if you're in Edmonton. Places like Florida have it easier since it's such a desirable location and they have low taxes.

Colorado has MacKinnon and Makar, but they have poor depth and just lost Rantanen because they couldn't afford his extension. And I'm not sure what the tax reality is there.

I don't think they could afford him this summer regardless. They have depth on the blueline, nobody of note expiring, and have to sign Luke Hughes. I think rather than pay him 4+ or something, they would use their bit of capspace on a fwd from what I've seen their fans saying they want.

The San Jose Sharks are listening on Mario Ferraro, 26, who has one more year on his deal next season at a $3.25 million cap hit. Pretty reasonable indeed. He’s a UFA when his deal expires in July 2026.

Listening doesn’t mean they’ll move him, but given the small number of D on the trade market, the Sharks are seeing what comes their way.
