The saga in Phoenix continues to be must-see. It'll be interesting to see where this all goes. Rumors of a resolution or announcement or something over the next few weeks or so.
Keep on the lookout for a fleet of Mayflower trucks in the area.

Damn, between SLC , Atlanta and Nashville I'm going to have 3 favorite teams ; I'm going to feel like that Chick from Ohio that posts in here from time to time.

Probably going to shake out

1. Thrashers
2. SLC Hockey Club
2B. Preds

Gotta figure even as much as Bettman has tried to make that work it's either put up or shut up for that area. If nothing is resolved soon you gotta figure that's a team destined for Houston or Atlanta.

All the talk is Salt Lake City. Though, I'd argue Atlanta is more ready for a team (ownership, temporary arena, and way further along in a new arena deal).

Funny enough, I think they'll try to go back to the market as soon as they are able to find a legit owner with a clear arena pathway. Same as Atlanta, it's just too big of a market to not revisit going back.

Could be but I think it's something that may just need a few years to breathe. I think one of the biggest issues has basically been the NHL needing to shoehorn in an owner. With a new franchise you can just wait for that right situation.

Atlanta inheriting an existing franchise that has struggled for years instead of getting a nice new shiny expansion that is handed a winning team right out of the gate would be an interesting choice to try to get back into that market.

To be honest I’m tired of the expansion talks. A 34 or 36 team league is just absurd. I know the owners want that big franchise fee to split amongst themselves and it’s starting to make the NHL look like an MLM pyramid scheme. They should be focusing on ways to transition from a gate driven league to the same model as the other professional leagues. But Bettman seems a lot more interested in making the billionaire owners richer instead of actually growing the NHL brand in a positive way.

Eh the number of teams doesn't really matter to me. Before we were added people were complaining that 26 was enough, the number is just arbitrary imo.

I'd feel alot different if they were trying to make it work in cities of questionable size. Houston and Atlanta are two of the largest markets in the US and are only going to get bigger. I dunno about Utah, but its had a basketball team for a long time so there is at least something going on there.

The big key is to make sure the owners are legit with legit backing, and while nuts ,the expansion fee certainly helps that out.

Hockey is in a weird position because as long as you can build the fan support it can make it in areas that something like football can't simply because of the scale, so having more teams makes sense to me.

That said if I was Atlanta I would want a fresh start rather than needing to deal with the mess left over from a previous owner. Would be an interesting fact that they end up with the original Winnipeg franchise after having the Thrashers move there though.

Am with you. Have no issues with the size of the league or it continuing to grow. 4 new US teams or a struggling team in Arizona or whatever don't effect me at all and have zero effect on me watching the Preds, Kings, and Ducks.

Just put them in a good position to put down roots and be successful, not from a making money or prestige or even standings or whatever standpoint, just what Yotes fans have been through for 20 years is awful and I wouldn't wish that on any new fanbase...except maybe in Quebec.

That chick from Ohio should be happy... Jarmo came in with much fanfare from his earlier scouting days, but has been fairly godawful, no? :dunno:
He's actually still the best and most successful GM in franchise history. Folks are just looking at him particularly askance because after Torts was ready to move on, he didn't know what to do next and things just kept going rapidly downhill from there. I was holding out some hope that he could find another clever move like he'd done before even tho it'd been several years, but the Babcock debacle kind of ended what faith I had left.

I mean he kindof went nuts in recent years with acquisitions didnt he?
Provorov
Gudbranson
Severson
Gaudreau
Laine
Etc

And after all that... theyre in the exact same spot in the standings as they were in 20-21.

Laine was because of PLD Showing His True Colors, Part 1 Of 3, so I'm not sure that qualifies. The defense up here has been defensively rudderless ever since Jones forced his way out - comparable to how things are going here except there's nobody as good as Josi to bail folks out and Elvis ain't no Saros - and there's been numerous attempts to salvage it that just haven't worked.
