I looked at their stats - Their PPG is the same But yes, you add that PLD is a center - ideally this puts a cap on what Meier would get.

Still... I can't help but dislike that PLD contract. He's missing something

He has a mercenary feel to him, if that makes sense. All NHL players play for money and comfort of setting up their future generations but he has always came off as a me first person wherever he's been. This also gives Gaudreau vibes a ton, signing or going elsewhere for a bit and then signing with the hometown team that they originally sought after all these years.

This is neat even if I don’t have time to sit and watch all of this. College me would have been all over this.

The NHL has needed to do more staggered starts for years, particularly on the weekends. Get games starting at 1 PM on Saturdays and always have a game starting every half hour until 10:30. Do this every Saturday after CFB season. Essentially, always have hockey being played if a casual fan wants to turn it on. Don't try to jazz people up about 12 games in one day when 10 of them start at 7 PM and all go to intermission at the same time.

That’s a pretty damn good return for WPG. Makes me wonder how much more we would’ve paid for an extended Meier…

I hate to say it but that's a very good return for the Hate team given that I don't actually think PLD is all that good.

I don't follow the Kings much, but seems like a great return for the Jets

Decent return for the Jets. Vilardi's always a question mark due to his injury history. Iafallo was gonna get squeezed out with Byfield and Kaliyev commanding more ice time (and Trevor Moore's extension kicks in this year). I didn't see much of a future for Kupari in LA.

Fiala-Kopitar-Kempe
Byfield-Dubois-Kaliyev
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson
Grundstrom-Lizotte-?
JAD-MacEwen

Anderson-Doughty
Gavrikov-Roy
Bjornfot?-Spence [Clarke long term]
Moverare

?-Copley

And then assuming Winnipeg dumps Blake Wheeler, they have something like:

Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi
Ehlers-Perfetti-Niederreiter
Iafallo-Lowry-Kupari
Barron-Stenlund-Appleton
Harkins-?

Morrissey-Schmidt
Dillon-Pionk
Samberg-DeMelo
Stanley/Heinola

Hellebuyck-?

Wouldn't bet on Scheifele being there to start the season

Is Newhook really that good that Montreal would give up a first and second round pick in this year's draft if I'm reading it right (and they'd have been drafting high I think) for him? This strikes me as a really stupid deal for Montreal unless Newhook totally has a blue chip future.
No he’s not and you’re not wrong

It's the 2nd lowest 1st round pick in the draft that they dealt. They traded 31 and 38 for him. You could probably get around pick 25 with that. It's not a deal I would make, but I think people overvalue picks in this range - they only end up as an NHL average or better player ~25% of the time.

Oh I thought, with their record last year, they must be picking higher. Maybe they had more than one first round pick stockpiled, I’ll have to check.

retelling a story now....

years ago kim mitchell was daytime DJ on a major toronto rock station and it seemed like every few weeks he would find some way to mention them but always called them "a flock of nimrods" on air...i dont know if there was bad blood between him and them or if he just thought they were shit. but it was strange to hear on a major station more than once.
