Rob Blake has a habit of way overpaying some guys. To the point where you're like ''Wait, what? Why did he get that much?''.

Cal Petersen is definitely one example.

And I'm pretty sure Todd McLellan was the highest paid head coach in the league last year (at least of all who have public salaries), which is also not including Babcock, who hasn't been coaching for years, but was still getting paid that huge salary by the Leafs through the end of this year.

$5 million for LOSER Todd, who is still on his original contract (I think?) from LA, which expires after this year. Even Laviolette's latest deal (signed in 2023) is still for about a hundred grand less per year. Bednar's extension that kicks in for 24-25 is still for $250k less per year than what Todd is getting right now. DeBoer is supposedly getting about $750k grand less per year. Maurice is making about $1.1 million less per year. Torts is only making $4 million a year, a full $1 million less than Tmac. Bruce Cassidy is making about $500k less per year. I know that was before he won the cup but still......

All these guys were given their deals more recently than Tmac.

Maybe Mike Sullivan makes more? He's salary is listed as unknown.

Did you have to look that up or do you have all the Coaches' salaries memorized???

When I first started making the post, I had remembered McLellan was the highest paid coach (with public salary and not including guys fired that are still collecting), but I went to the site to look at all the salaries as I was making that post.

I was looking them all up just now on cap friendly. Some are simply listed as ''Unknown''. Mike Sullivan is probably the only really big name listed as unknown, I'm pretty sure Ruff's was listed as unknown as well. He's not currently listed right now, even though he's almost definitely already been extended.

Now that I look at it, Cooper is listed as an unknown also. Maybe he makes more than McLellan?

Cap friendly has a bunch listed as unknown, but not many of the really big names, other than Sullivan and Cooper.

Of course among the unknown's are also Lane Lambert (but wasn't Trotz's deal public when he was there?), who apparently isn't signed past this year? Or like Ruff, isn't listed for next year. Maybe he needed to be give an extension as well.

David Quinn is an unknown and so is DJ Smith. We could probably guess DJ Smith's salary. What's the average salary for a janitor in the Ottawa area? I'm sure one that was given his deal by Melnyk makes less than the average greater Ottawa area janitor.

I think I remember Darryl Sutter getting paid a ton last year. Can't remember if it was more than $5k or not. Even though he's still getting paid this year, his salary/name is no longer listed after being fired.

It was actually rhetorical question :)

Food for thought.

I mean yeah I’m sure teams want him and he wants to go somewhere where he’d have a bigger role but if you’re Vegas why would you even consider it unless a team gives you a crazy offer. He’s a good goalie signed for another 2 years at 766k. For a cap strapped team like Vegas I’d really rather hold onto that than move him for something and get a different cheap goalie who likely won’t be nearly as good.

Edit: Sorry, glossed over what you wrote already. A disgruntled player makes enough noise, most (all?) teams react. Whether it's a Duchene/PLD situation or something as quick as Hoffman.

I'm afraid he'll end up in Carolina or Buffalo. It would greatly improve them.

He’s not moving the needle in the slightest for Carolina. Them (maybe) getting marginally better at keeping the puck out isn’t making a difference.
