Trading Thompson would be a dumb thing to do, and while Vegas has proven to be aggressive, they have not indicated they are dumb. I fully expect he'll be their #1 again by this time next year.

Can Vegas afford to buyout Lehner?

My guess is that they may not be able to buy him out this offseason, due to him not being cleared, but that he probably won't be ready for the start of the season if that were the case.

We've been hearing smoke and speculation about Lehner not playing there again next year, long before they won the cup.

I gotta say, I really like what Brian Burke does with You Can Play and him being outspoken that everyone is welcome in hockey, which he's consistently done, but damn dude, he's not a guy I'd want in my front office in any capacity where he has to make actual decisions or has anywhere near a final say. Not in 2023.

I thought Hextall did a decent job with the Flyers before Chuck came in and bulldozed the entire place, but there's a lot of stains on his resume for his time in Pittsburgh.

I think at the time Hextall was fired in Philly a lot of people were like ''Uhhh what? Wow, really?''

But his time in Pittsburgh was almost like he really was a mole for the Flyers sent to infiltrate and destroy lol.

Edit: Sorry, glossed over what you wrote already. A disgruntled player makes enough noise, most (all?) teams react. Whether it's a Duchene/PLD situation or something as quick as Hoffman.

Sure, but unless they have another great cheap goalie in their system there are no other realistic options. The goalie market is awful. This isn’t the NBA, I don’t see it. Maybe they figure something next year when they have more cap space.

Thompson’s coming off a serious injury, he should be fine with being in a tandem. I’m not sure what he expects.

Duchene asked for a trade and then waited for almost a year for it to happen. He asked for a trade around Christmas 2016 and he got traded to Ottawa Nov 5 2017.

Duchene did it because he wanted to play in the playoffs. And the Ottawa Senators did not make the 2018 Playoffs. (He needed to be traded to Columbus the next year for that.)

Muy excelente.

I went to the 2015 Awards in Vegas and I decided to be silly and wear a suit. The NHL had Daughtry play a full set after the show, but most of the crowd dispersed before they took the stage. So they had anybody sticking around come down to the floor where the players had been sitting.

I sat through a couple songs but quickly reaffirmed that they weren't my cup of tea. So I walked over to a security guard to ask where the nearest exit was. They probably couldn't hear me since the band was playing, but I got ushered backstage since they must have assumed I was somebody since I was wearing a suit.

While it’s true the flat cap is wreaking havoc, that’s the closest acknowledgement you’re going to get as far as lack of discipline around valuation.

To be fair a lot of us might be guilty of it too, assuming the cap will rise in the next few years. Maybe it should, and it seems like we're pretty well positioned even if it doesn't but yeah, the flat cap didn't exactly help the win-now teams with long-term deals the previous few seasons.

It's maybe a bit less than what Barbashev could get on the open UFA market. Not a "great" deal.

He's a middle-six winger and Vegas is buying high here. We've seen how the NHL values middle-six wingers on medium-to-high AAVs...
