He's pretty good offensively, but kinda kills you defensively.

feel like he's getting overpaid because of 60 points in 2022, and because of a (really good) cup run.

But man, that's a 40-50 point winger with ZERO defense.

Trotz thinks any goalie can play well in the right system - and that's true if it's HIM running it. I didn't even remember who Nashville hired as head coach though - I should have lol...Mr. Golf Cart himself. Don't think he's big on defensive systems.

But then why not move your star goalie and then get a decent goalie and wait for Askarov to establish himself?

Either:

-They want to try to retool to win sooner
-They don't believe in Askarov long-term
-They just don't think it'll be worth it to cash out on Saros with a limited market

Take your pick which one you think is closer to the truth

I'm not the biggest Askarov fan. Trading him isn't the worst idea IMO. I don't think his value is going to get higher than it likely is now.

My immediate reaction was this should be fake but it seemed legit. I enjoyed it. Oduya reference as well.

I'm guessing he was easy to fool people for the fact that he's pretty young looking for an NHL GM and he's walking down the street with a hat on backwards and dressed like a normal dude and not in a suit. I'm pretty sure he is the youngest current GM and maybe even by 10 years or so? Dubas is around the same age as him, but not really a GM right now, other than on an interim basis.

Not to mention that Chicago hasn't gotten a whole lot of press since he's been the GM. Well, they definitely haven't gotten press for the right reasons, but that has nothing to do with him. So you wouldn't really see him a whole lot of places, like the GM's of either currently successful teams or guys that have been GM's for a long time now.

$9 - $10 for Aho. Yikes. With the way the cap is going, he’s probably worth it. But so nice that no forward is getting that here. A few hundred k here, a million there…makes roster construction much easier.
I'm skeptical he didn't want to stick it to Carolina a bit after the last go round with them. It has to kill their owner to pay market value for Aho.

That’s a fair deal for him. Doesn’t help them moving forward, but probably won’t be a boat anchor. I was worried they were gonna Canes their way to some sort of steal though so I’m a little relieved.

I do think he’s overrated defensively already though, so we’ll have to see how this ages

he's a top notch center and it's not typically the top guys getting paid that drags a team down. It's more having to navigate the complementary and depth guys that hurts them. Fitz's cryptic comment about not qualifying some of the RFAs with arbitration rights sounds like he's already paying attention to that issue. Man is he sharp.

He's absolutely worth it. You have guys like Horvat and PLD making 8.5 so it makes sense that Aho is making probably just under 10. Eichel (0,94 ppg career vs Aho 0,90 ppg) is probably his comparable.

In the meantime, that Jack deal is looking more and more like a steal.

That does seem steep for Barbashev. So I guess moving Reilly Smith was to clear the space for the contract?

That’s probably a good move, but it could be an interesting what if in a few years.

Boston is gonna stink next year if their geezer centers retire

And now talk of bringing back Lucic.

A couple of their old GOOD players out, while bringing in an old piece of shit player, who's sucked since even before he turned f***in 30 years old.

I guess Cam Neely loves Lucic, as I'm pretty sure Sweeney shipped him out right upon his appointing to GM.

Lucic has been an old washed up sack of shit for years and years now. He's been a meme for quite a while.
