I checked out the Blues cap situation out of curiosity, they have 4 defensemen, 1 goalie, and 4 forwards with big cap hits, long terms, and NTCs. Youngest is Bucnevich at 28, Binnington at 29 had a horrible stats.

It's hard to summarize the precariousness of their situation. Kind of explains to me at least why they kept all their first rounders - they just can't fit any other big contracts (over $5 million).

Red Wings and other team's underwhelming former 1st rounders. Name a better duo.
Sometimes I don't get some of Yzerman's moves over there, but I also realistically don't expect them to be good for a while longer, unless they can really snag a pretty good talent or two in the draft. I'm talking something closer to Hughes level (any of them) or someone like that.

Holland left them in arguably worse condition than Lou left us in. So I keep saying, I'm thinking they're probably in the same shape we were in around 2018 or 2019 (only they didn't just draft Jack Hughes) and I really think they need to stop finishing at about 80-85 points. They need a nice 2016-2017 or 2018-2019 or 2019-2020 Devils type of season before they really make a stride. It will probably drive fans crazy and have them even calling for Yzerman to be fired, but it's gonna be best for the long term if that happens the next two years.

I think they could make the playoffs at some point in the next 2 or 3 years (like we did in 2018), which is attainable success, but I think they probably realistically have until 2026 (maybe 2027) for sustainable success.

I think Buffalo is currently ahead of them in the ''They're gonna be a really good team soon'' pecking order in that division. Ottawa may also be, but they're also (probably) WASTING yet another year with Dick's Janitor Smith and GMWAT running things. I don't see any sustainable success with those two moronic captains steering the ship. The ownership change will probably happen too late for them to really burn it down before the season/training camp starts, unless they wanna do that later in the offseason. I guess it could happen anytime.

Problem with Detroit is their forward group simply isn't good and there are no young prospects coming to save them. Well, I guess that depends on how you feel about Kasper but still, that depth and their system depth isn't great. It's Larkin, Raymond, Kasper, Copp, a 35 year old Perron and a bunch of castoffs/disappointments.

At least, with their defensive group, they've got some promise in the pipeline.

Not the biggest fan of JR, but he's spot on here

The Wings issue is though they're taking guys that are low ceiling high floor guys, they need a superstar with Larkin there. I don't know how they're gonna get it but it's not how he spent in UFA last year with the likes of Chairot and Copp

That Xhekaj pick is the biggest nepo pick ever. That tops taking Marty’s son
He’s real prospect though.

Colorado took Cale Makar’s brother Taylor at #220 in 2021 only because he was Cale’s brother.

It was his D+2 season and he was an unproductive forward in the AJHL. Then at age 20 Taylor became an unproductive forward at UMass.

Of course Makar is slightly more important player.

Adding Nate Danielson to a draft pool with Marco Kasper.

I don’t know anything about him, but is he just not 101st overall good? Or not even good enough to be a lock to get drafted at all?
