We're hitting that point in the season where teams are starting to face some real "must win" games. We're 3 weeks away from the trade deadline, so you have to think that a few GMs are going to make their minds up about the long-term direction of their teams based on the next 5 games.

The Pens play the Hawks tonight. They currently sit 7 points out of the playoffs (with 2+ games in hand on the teams they are chasing). They have dropped 3 straight and need to make a decision on Guentzel pretty soon. I don't see how you tell yourself it is worth letting Guentzel walk as a UFA if you lose to Chicago tonight. I know it is hard to tell Sid that you're throwing the towel in on the season, but if that group wants the team to back them then they really can't lose to the same awful team that eliminated them from the playoffs last year.

There are a number of bubble vs bubble teams in the next few days that are important for both teams, but that Pens/Hawks game really strikes me as a 'last chance' game for the Pens.

Feel free to start that thread or just state here to remind us what made JD so valuable from 2006-09.
I stated it in my post, maybe I need to repeat it for a while.

Davidson came in and was the voice of the team to built legitimacy between the fans and the new ownership group.

Even if he did nothing else but be the face of the team for 5 years, that had serious value for the franchise at that point in time. Maybe legitimacy isn't the right word, but he re-established a positive connection between the fans and the team, built trust, got the fans to come back and buy in to what was going on. That wasn't happening if Checketts had some guy no one had heard of who came straight from the corporate world to be team president. Or, if Checketts had tried to be the voice of the team himself despite having no personal experience with the sport of hockey.

If you think that wasn't valuable, go remember how Blues fans felt toward the organization in March 2006. And again, in 2009 no one was yapping about what does John Davidson even do?It was "OK, we're digging out from the Bill Laurie Reign of Terror, he's helping get the franchise pointed back to where we want it to be" and there was implicit trust because things were trending in the right direction.

YMMV, though.

Your points 1 and 2 seem to contradict each other.
They do, but that was the beauty of comments from people who hated Larry Pleau: they'd spout two contradictory statements, get called out on the inconsistency, then go through the keyboard adamant that both of them were true.

But you yourself say all JD did was say the same things but fans were cool with him saying it.
You know how you can be asked to do something, and one person makes it sound sincere and you're motivated to do it while someone else can say the exact same thing and they come across as a complete asshole and you think f*** you, asshole, I'm not doing any of that shit?

Not quite that extreme re: this topic, but that's what I'm talking about.

Watching Avs/Bolts and it’s remarkable how much better the Bolts’ PP is than the Blues. They move it so quick and take so many one timers. Really fun to watch.

I feel sorry for Columbus. JD strikes me as a used car salesman and now he’s hiring the next GM? Ughh so glad he’s far from the Blues organization

If Jarmo wants to come back and scout, I'm sure Army would love to have him on board.
Jarmo’s contract as Blue Jackets GM goes through next season I think. Army would have to pay him as much as Columbus is to make it worth his while. No way would we do that. And I don’t really see why Jarmo would want to take 3 steps down as well.

I want this Kid in Blues.

Kiddo is 203cm and 109kg.

If we trade for any 6’8” forward, would rather it be Elmer Soderblom of Detroit.

Rempe fighting. Sick. Cant remember when last Time seen this good fight.

That was awesome.

Rempe fought again tonight (and got rocked), but this dude is the man. He’s fought in every single game so far and has 2 points in his first 4 games as a 21-year old. I hope he does well, he would make the league more entertaining.
