Man Dallas picked a good one in Stankoven. 4 points in 4 games in his first NHL action while also putting up 57 points in 47 games in his first season in the AHL.

Dallas is a machine; their drafting has been incredible. Not just the Oettinger, Robertson & Heiskanen draft...but Wyatt Johnston was a home-run. Stankoven, Harley, Bourque....

They've been my favorites for the Cup since the season started, and adding Tanev makes their defense solid and deep. I'd be surprised if anyone can take four of seven from them in the playoffs.

agreed. i had questions about their 3-4 d, but otherwise felt they could be league's top team. with tanev, they look like team to beat (at least in the west).

Stankoven looks very Marchand-esque. Don’t think he loses any battles. Dallas is going to be a big problem for a long time. Hopefully players asking for raises and a more toned down draft success in the near future brings them down to the median a bit more. But man that team is going to be a problem.

I just don't see how any team can overcome Vegas having Pietrangelo. He's like a trump card that Vegas can just throw out there and he completely controls the entire game. The other team might as well forfeit.

It’s funny, because prior to their 2017 draft they had dogshit drafting for years (at least in regards to the early rounds)

I love the Tanev trade for Dallas. He is exactly what they needed and they didn't have to make some wild overpay to get him.

I'm very surprised that the Flames pulled the trigger on this deal over a week before the deadline. Unless they are just in love with the prospect, it really feels like they could have done better. If nothing else, it feels to me like they could/should have been able to add a condition to the 2nd rounder that it becomes a 1st if the Stars make the Final. The fact that a Final appearance only gets the Flames a 2026 3rd instead of upgrading the 2nd to a 1st is just crazy to me.

Lebrun was on TSN talking about this trade and made some interesting points. 1) Calgary still has a LOT on their plate with Hanifin and could not afford to have the TDL pass with both he and Tanev still on the team 2) injuries are a concern with Tanev…both of which may have incentivized them to get a deal done early (even if they could possibly get slightly more later).

Conroy is a rookie GM who looks like he's getting taken to the cleaners. Both the Vancouver and Dallas returns were underwhelming.

The thing that gives me pause on getting on the Stars Cup wagon: Peter DeBoer. He's had a history of great 1st seasons with a team, and then later seasons generally fall off. San Jose bucked that trend to a point, but even so his 1st season was a trip to the Finals and 2019 wouldn't have been a WCF appearance save 2 calls that ... well, you know.

Then remember that even though Vegas had injuries down the stretch in 2022, he still single-handedly coached that team out of a playoff spot and rightfully got fired for it.

Does Dallas look good right now? Yep. Do I think DeBoer can f*** it up in the playoffs? Oh hell yeah.

That’s not surprising at all. Watch the Capitals and you’ll see that he doesn’t even try anymore.

He’s like Vrana, except he makes 7.8 mil for one more season after this one. Nobody is touching that contract.

If you’re free, turn on Wings/Panthers. Already a lot of animosity and both teams really playing hard. It’s going to be a really good game.

No, see, we get Kuznetsov here and then pair him with Vrana and since they're both Russian they'll instantly have chemistry and start putting up 40 goals and 80 points.

How could it not work?
I'm gonna be good and not make jokes right now. Lol.

I would say tho.... if we could get caps to retain to match caphits. His deal expiring at the end of next season is a positive, but, I just can't find any desire for Kuznetsov on this team.

The only flaw in the plan....they aren't both Russian. Vrana is Czech. Born in Prague, plays internationally for Czech Republic.
