I wonder what the financial ramifications of the resignation are. What he did (or what we were told about it) was a little creepy and manipulative, but I doubt it was a breech of his contract.

Jarmo has made some big moves, but nothing has really turned out great. It’s hard to build a winning team. Regardless of who they hire for head coach, if they’re not a solid playoff team this year (doubtful) I bet Jarmo is fired.

We'll likely never know since these agreements almost always include NDAs. Considering that we haven't heard an official statement summarizing the NHLPA investigation, it appears that the PA was probably involved in the resignation negotiations.

I will be surprised if we ever get a full summary of exactly what went down in all these player/coach meetings to determine whether it would be a breach of his contract. I'd also be surprised if Babcock isn't getting some percentage of his contract to shut up and go away quietly.

None of those permutations reflect well on Jarmo. Most GMs don’t get to make a terrible coaching hire and then pick the next coach.

Armstrong picked Yeo. Did he pick Payne also?

I personally believe in 2nd chances, and you would hope Babs would have learned from the past, but ......

Payne was before Armstrong, so that would have been Pleau.

Typically you want to hear some demonstration of understanding on what the issue was and some steps they took to fix it, but it seems the extent of the vetting was talking to hockey guys who just said "oh yeah he's a good guy".

In the other, other Arizona game today, Logan Cooley, Snuggy's old teammate, has an incredible goal.

i'm so glad he left minnesota. cooley was so good he made it too easy for his wingers. snuggy needs to play without him to further develop.

Really cool that this happened in one of the global series games. I can't think of a better way to establish a fanbase than seeing a goal like that live.

I really wonder point of some of these games. Flames had pretty much all of their top guys while Canucks had mostly minor leaguers and scrubs.

I think it's really nothing more than a warm up for the guys. I've never cared for it because we always seem to get injuries in the Pseason.

I’m surprised this happens as much as it does. The typical trend I’ve seen over the years in preseason is the home team will want to give the home fans what they want - a good chunk of their top guys, as an incentive to pay to see an exhibition game. Conversely, the away team will generally not make their top guys travel much in the preseason. This leads to some pretty outlandishly uneven matchups. Can either side truly evaluate much in that scenario? To me, it’d make more sense for the teams to coordinate the approx level of play so they have about the same number of quality players, minor leaguers, prospects etc. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Mostly to get a few extra dates on the calendar to generate revenue.

There is a small chunk of value in seeing how a handful of key fringe roster players look when either thrown to the wolves or paired with an NHL line and there is a small amount of 'shake the rust of value.

But the primary purpose of preseason games is to add a couple home dates to the calendar that season ticket holders are forced to purchase and get a few thousand people into the building to buy concessions while the new in-arena staff gets their feet wet so opening night runs as smoothly as possible. The on-ice product of a preseason game is very much a secondary concern in pre-season.

It’s just like college football where the big schools play home games against small schools. The big guys sell out their huge stadiums while they stomp on their overmatched victims, and the poor victims get paid a handsome sum for the privilege of being stomped. It’s all about money.

Wasn't the NHL supposed to suspend the Team Canada players involved in the sexual assault incident before training camp?

I thought so too, but I have yet to see any release of the players involved or suspensions issued etc...

So much for the league stating it would remain accountable.

I don't think I've seen any reporting on findings. Did I miss?
Not that I've seen. There are a few articles of reporters stating they know the guilty parties and are holding back the names.

Presumably because they want to wait for court ordered decisions and decisions about discipline to be made.

But, to me that implies the investigation is basically at an end and the consequences are being determined.
