For a team that is poor at defence as the Leafs the Bertuzzi/ Domi signing doesn't help one bit, both have no idea where the D zone is
There's lots of options ... they can use LTIR & pickup D at TDL or they can trade them at the deadline for a handful of picks. If it works you will start seeing a few teams using those one year deals to their advantage.

Not really sure what the Leafs are planning. As it is, they really look weak beyond this season. They have a very weak prospect pipeline, few draft picks, and they will quickly use up next year's cap increase if they extend Matthews and Nylander (and might have an extra 2M cap hit if they buy out Murray).

This season is really their best shot as a contender, I would think.

Bertuzzi and Domi at least add some bite. No idea why they signed Reaves.

Florida beat them because Tkachuk, Verhaeghe, Lomberg, Gudas, and Bennet can run through everyone on their team AND score. Reaves can barely run through guys these days and he certainly can't score. Puzzling move that will have zero effect on their ability to play against tough teams.

Leafs going all in this year as they may feel signing Mathews will be tough, still they need better goaltending if they plan on getting to the conference finals.

They'll sign Matthews and they will overpay for him. I feel his 60 goal season is the best we ever see from him, especially if they keep him away from Marner.

Its the 3 years that seems insane... especially on a cap crunch team - Greenway would have been a way better option

The Leafs are one again 'truculent' but I doubt that gets them past the first round

Simmonds and Clifford certainly did absolutely nothing. Not sure why Reaves would be any different. Pure face punchers provide one thing and one thing only..entertainment.

Its hard to see the logic where Bertuzzi is worth 5.5 but Bunting they pass on Bunting at 4.5... and Reaves is fine for 3 years but again Bunting is not - just bizarre

Really the ball is in Matthews’s court. He either gets paid the highest AAV in Toronto, or he high-tails it to the States and still gets paid the highest AAV.

Man, I love Dubas

The only difference between Toronto and pretty much anywhere else is the endorsement deals. He won't get that sweet sweet Scotia Bank money in the US because the big banks down there don't care about hockey, They hire the NBA and NFL players to do their ads.

Yeah, that’s one thing Toronto has going for it. I guess we’ll see if Matthews wants to be in Toronto as bad as he says

Nylanders probably gonna hit $9m next offseason. I don't think Ehlers will touch anything close to that. One of them can actually friggin score in the playoffs.
As a UFA he would probably come within a million of that in two years (likely approaching $8m if not there). Assuming he doesn't have major health issues. He's as good as Nylander, but Nylander gets the Toronto premium and Ehlers gets the Winnipeg discount.

As much as I love Ehlers Nylander has surpassed him heavily at this point and that's okay.

Tavares who with that contract and NTC is impossible to move but he is a player that was not needed then and might end up costing them Nylander especially if they sign Mathews to a ridiculous contract
He really should have cost them Nylander 3 years ago. Not because Nylander is not great. But because having him as the 4th best forward limits money that could be put towards improving the rest of the roster so much.
