how so?

Usage?

Ehlers still outscoring him year after year 5v5.

Except Ehlers gets significantly less minutes against top comp. So by the time you make up for that, then you add in Willie's superior PP stats and the fact that he actually can score in the playoffs and the fact that Ehlers is a f***ing bandaid recently.

Ehlers is left in the dust, Take off the homer glasses bruh.

That's not even debatable.

Ehlers is my favourite Jet and as much as it pains me to say Nylander especially after last year has left Nik way behind

Yeah you have to be living on Jets homer mountain to not think so. One of them was really hte only player that showed up for the Leafs in the playoffs recently. The other has a milk carton with his face on it whenever the playoffs roll around.

I think he would for sure. Especially 3 years from now who knows how much the cap has hone up by then

Jesper Bratt just signed for I think 7.8 x 8
Bratt had 73 points in each of his last two seasons and is 24 years old.
Ehlers hit 64 in the 16-17 season for his highest totals and is 27 years old.
Ehlers isn't getting 8m.

I'd trade him straight up for Konecny!!!

Yeah youre right. 5 straight years without close to a full season. He is a solid 0.8 pts per game in that stretch. But durability over that long stretch matters and he hasn't demonstrated that.

You can't blame Ehlers for lack of playing time when healthy. All the stats suggest he produces at a 1st line level.
I'm not sure what his value would be if he had a new contract today, but it sure sounds like you have an irrational hate for one of the Jets best players.

Why is it considered hate when I think another player is better than him?

Not one, but 3 coaches gave him that playing time.

I'm greatly enjoying the back-and-forth on Ehlers, but in keeping with the name of this thread, came here to comment on Wheeler signing for league minimum with the Rangers.

I was frankly pretty shocked. Wheels isn't worth $8.5 million, but he's sure worth more than $800k ... he still scored 55 points last season! People ask why Jets don't do better (forget which thread it was where I gave 5 reasons I see) ... add this to the list ... no one signs ridiculous discount contracts for the honour of playing with the Jets the way NYR and some other "marquee" franchises do.

Different strokes for different folks ... personally, you'd have to way overpay me to convince me to play/live in a big city like New York, Toronto, or LA.

P.S. WRT Ehlers I tend to agree with @Daximus -- great player, but he can't stay healthy and has vanished every single playoffs (maybe because of the inability to stay healthy) so I don't think he's worth the same as a player who is also great but can stay healthy and is clutch in the playoffs.

Are the Bruins really going to go into next season with that forward group?

Their Cs are Zacha, Coyle, Frederic and maybe Geekie.

On the wing, they have Pastrnak, Marchand, Debrusk... and then nothing.

It's not only weak, but also very shallow.

They are kind of stuck. They need C's but they just don't have the pieces to trade for one right now. Really Swayman is their only piece.

Swayman for Scheifele + ??

Assuming Helle is to be moved, and maybe Helle could be moved for a package involving a centre. Just spit-balling there'd have to be more to make it worthwhile for us.

Swayman, Frederic, Zacha, 2025 1st, Lysell. That's really all they have that might be of interest to the Jets, I suppose.

I think our best bet is to try and pry some of the young C's out of Buffalo and then trade Scheif for Swayman if we are moving both of them that seems like a logical way to go about it. If we load up on young C's one of them should hopefully break out.

I don't think they really want to gut their C depth so I'd imagine they would try to keep Zacha out of it.

There are certainly pieces there that are attractive. Boston seems comfortable with old centers so maybe Schiefele's next contract isn't scaring them as much as it is me .

Does Swayman make sense in a Scheifele trade, if Hellebuyck stays for another year? I can't quite decide.

I really wonder if there's a market for Hellebuyck at this point. I think a few teams (like LAK, NJD and BUF) are going to try to run their current tandems, and see how it works out. If there is a key injury, or their goaltending is struggling, Hellebuyck becomes a much more valued commodity.

I think it's more likely that the Jets could find a trade partner for Scheifele this summer, but I wonder if the Jets would want to do that if they don't have any other good options at C. The Jets can afford Scheifele, even with a bit of an overpay over the next several seasons, but it depends on whether he would want to re-sign and whether the Jets want him back. But any future Jets F configuration looks a lot better with Scheifele than without, at this point. Put him with wingers that are strong defensively (like Niederreiter, Iafallo, Vilardi) and I think Scheifele will be fine on the ice, and gives the Jets top-end finishing talent that would otherwise be lacking.

Ppl are suggesting trading scheifele for a f***ing goalie? Good lord. Eventually some of you need to stop pretending..criticize every move Chevy makes, then suggest trading our number 1 center for a goalie

We will need a replacement for Helle who’s stated he won’t re-sign and Scheifele doesn’t play goal. He’s an asset who might return a good goalie among other things so I don’t think it’s an insane idea if Helle can return a Scheifele replacement.
