That AAV is a steal for what Matthews brings. 4 years is why you get the low dollar amount. Plus with the cap going up this isn't crippling.

How many players consecutively hit 60 goals? He'll have his peak and valleys but 40-50 goals is a year is not some small feat. Ovie at 25 years old only had 32 goals.

You have it backwards... longer term = lower AAV. At least that's how it's always worked in the past
