So, I noticed something weird with regards to the goaltending this season. Hellebuyck will, barring a complete collapse in the last few games, win the Vezina this season. But he's for all intents and purposes having the same season as last year when he was either the 3rd or 4th best goalie in the league. Basically the same save percentage and save percentage above expected, average save percentage around the league is the same.

Hellebuyck is having a fine season, no doubt. But why isn't any other goalie in the league having a better season?
It seems to me that there are more goals around the league this year. Not sure if that is because forwards are better, offensive schemes are ahead of the d scheme curve, or defensemen are worse?

Just a wild guess

Ekholm banged up rantanan

Not even sure how Mikko got his bell rung, really clean hit.

Coyotes score 6 goals in 3rd to take lead over VGK. Crazy game.
So many 'contenders' have had some really bad spells of hockey.

Vegas has some pretty significant injuries but still.

Suddenly we control our destiny re: #2 seed, I think? With the game in hand over Colorado and with one of our remaining games being vs. Colorado, and since we currently own the first two tie breakers over them. Right? I think the home ice against many teams may not matter too much, but Colorado is proportionately better at home and worst on the road, relative to other teams.

If the Flyers miss the playoffs Torts is done, once again he is rubbing people the wrong way, when you are winning people tolerate him but he is not worth his bravado when you lose.

They should give the winner of the EC a bye for the first round and only have six other Eastern teams play in the first round. Nobody below Tampa is even close to deserving a playoff spot.
