How about showing some guts and saying no limit on the fines. Do something horrible, well get a fine in the millions - similar to US lawsuits.
The fine limits are in the CBA. As is the process for suspensions and appeals (but not the details, just that the league may suspend a player and they can appeal the suspension).

The next CBA should reform the whole process - but the players have to agree...and the PA will never agree to any suspension process with real teeth. When a player is injured from a dirty play, he still gets paid when he misses games - right to the end of his contract if necessary; but a suspended player doesn't get paid at all. There are few career-ending injuries, so it's a tradeoff the players seem happy to make, overall.

Maybe not the best team in the league, that's debatable but saying they are closer to 10 than 1 is just silly. The Jets are third in the league in point% and goal differential.

Jets since Nov1 are 19-6-2 which is best in the league.
Jets since Dec1 are 11-1-2 which is best in the league.

Is this sustainable for the rest of the year? Probably not, but you're probably the only hockey fan in the world that would put them closer to 10 than 1 right now.
Wasn't everyone just talking about the Daily Faceoff power ranking where 2 guys (presumably hockey fans, living on Earth) have them at 10th?

Fair enough. Those rankings are pretty funny though. Looking at other ones I'm quite surprised how much they vary.

Funny they don't take Jets last two months of dominance into account, but they keep Boston up top even after going 8-6-3 in last 17.

There is no best team in the NHL right now... there's 10 really solid teams at least then ten mushy middle and 10 bad
Exactly. the only time you can talk about the best team is after the SC finals. Just ask Bruins fans what it ultimately meant to have a regular season dominant team.

Jamal Mayers is an idiot. Wow.

Which one was he? The one who thinks there needs to be an element of fear in the NHL, and you can't run around without fear of repercussion, or the other one who didn't like that Fetts was the target when there were otherly perfectly cromulent stars on the Jets roster that Hartman could target instead?

The former.

trigger warning: stupidity....

So Jamal you do realize that Dillon was the guy that initiated the cross check which led to the Kaprizov injury and he didn’t turtle or keep his gloves on he accepted the challenge from Middleton and he answered for his actions. No mention of it at all? Then we had the fight at the beginning of the follow up game where Lowry answered the bell with Maroon. That is the way the NHL works that is how you even the score. The Wild challenged both Dillon and Lowry and they accepted. I understand that from the Wild and I think it was more than ok.

The Hartman play was not ok and all it did was escalate the arms race after the fact. This was just Hartman being Hartman and trying to use any excuse to cheap shot a player for his 7th fine and counting.

Jamal was making zero sense trying to tie this to a possible imaginary playoff series?

What a bunch of hacks those two guys are. The women made far better points. You can be physical without being dirty. But this is all because they league isn't serious about protecting its players.
Totally agree .... its was funny when she got Jamal about the crosscheck used his words "its a physical game." Weird how they never showed Krilli's dirty hit on Dillion that lead up to the crosschecks.
I bet if Hartman did that to Bedard he would be suspended.

Aren’t the pundits made to take sides? You could ask if the sky is blue? And one of them would say it was orange.

Haven’t felt that much second-hand embarrassment since my cousin’s pancake incident. Had to stop the video and recuperate a few times.
Our family has experienced several pancake incidents, and yes, that shyte's real.

My Uncle Mick once ploughed through 18 blueberry 'cakes (we're talking real plate-sized mofo's made with eggs and milk) with peanut butter - all before 10 am - and promptly entered into a tachycardic state (code blue - a little family joke).

Aunt Harriet would crank the Kraftwerk and sometimes throw Robin Hood Flour up in the air, and we'd try to clean up the counter tops in case the police showed up. Sometimes they'd give me a wad of bills and ask me to ride my bike to Safeway to mule more OJ in my backpack. I was so nervous - the checkout staff knew what was going on. When I got home, the adults would sit in a circle in the kitchen, chug that shyte to clear the peanut butter, and then go in for round two.

It was so crazy. My sibs and cousins were like helicoptor parents to our own familial adult cohort. Uncle Mick was ratted out by his blueberry guy and is now doing hard time in Stoney.

When the new Pankake Haus went up on MacGillivray, I knew the whole neighbourhood was compromised, even with the enhanced police presence. Walking to school, we'd see 'cake deals go down in broad daylight. Hopefully the government will recognize the problem and establish specific pancake squads.

Watch Kaprizov closely when he plays, he gets exactly what he deserves.
He’s a rat pure and simple.
Live by the sword…

Zero games for Cousins on his dirty hit, three games for the retaliation by Zucker.

Someday, the league will realize that Parros's capricious and illogical rulings make him completely unfit to discharge the function of his office [EDIT: 'discharge his function' just made me giggle every time I read it, and we're allegedly adults here]. Today, apparently, is not that day.

Heck, maybe I should take over. Put me right in there, I'd have this league cleaned up in a season. Apparently all I need is some cutely-unhinged clothing line name like "Sociopath Swag" or whatever, since that seems to be Parros' only actual qualification.

Pinto loses half a season for not betting on the NHL...

Priorities.

Pinto getting half a year makes sense in the same way that a homophobic slur can be punished as hard as actual crippling physical violence -- a consequence of the massive damage to the league as a whole because of the optics of the situation. I mean, damage in a way that may result in teams folding. The only way it irks me that Pinto got half a year is that Evander Kane got nothing, but if you make your code-of-conduct violating bets the old fashioned way, at least there's no paper trail, huh?

Crazy that we have a media personality on national TV actually trying to justify hitting someone in the head with their stick.

Mayers, I can at least understand. Like it's still a horrible take, but it's at least internally consistent with how he saw and played the game. He's stuck in the past, but during his heyday a generation ago, that was SOP.

The other guy, and his "it would have been okay if it was a stick to the face of a veteran skilled player but not a kid" angle, had me more confused than a cross-eyed coelacanth.
