Canucks remarkable turn around from last season
Tocket for coach of the year
Flyers beat Canucks last night and they are 2nd behind Rangers in their division
Fl;yers are under the radars
Flyers were a lottery team last season
We going to play with those teams in Jan and Feb and Not expecting an easy matchup
I am beginning to think getting rid of captains is a must for turning around a team. Wheeler and Horvat both gone and teams are magically better.

Edit: not enough research on leadership in sports.

This is where Chevy dropped the ball for us.
Wheels should have been gone long ago.
But at what cost? I think Chevy tried hard to move him the off season before, but with no takers without significant sweeteners, with 2 years left on his contract. Once he got down to one season the buyout became much more manageable, so he no longer needed to pay a team to take on Wheeler's contract.

Canucks would have been fighting for the wild card spot last season if Demko was not hurt which goes to show you how important having a good goalie is.

They/Chevy/Chipman were also unwilling retain which made him unmovable.
The effort last year was half hearted at best to move him.
How do you know the effort?
Should the Jets lose an additional player to dump Wheeler?
Chevy has a reputation to keep ... he plays hardball and it willing to take a hit and not give in.

Toronto really struggling with their goaltending of late. Samsonov came out of nowhere last season to sport a .919 save % over 42 games but honestly that was an outlier in an otherwise pretty suboptimal career. This season he is back to sucking and the Leafs reeling right now with Woll on the sidelines.

Watching decent teams flounder with poor goaltending really makes me appreciate Helle.

Couple of clean losses and the Leafs might find themselves out of a playoff spot, now there is plenty of time to go in the season but for a team that the media seems to fawn over they have plenty of holes in their lineup and it's really being magnified lately.

Their biggest hole is whoever is guarding the net. Get that even mid tier and they're fine, time's running out though

Their goaltending is definitely a big problem but in the few games i've seen this season they also look to have some forwards who don't play defense.

There are lots of teams who have forwards with varying commitments to defense, our hometown team included.

The last few seasons I felt the Leafs were a contender but this season things aren’t the same and it’s not just goaltending. Their team defense and D core aren’t getting it done as well at this point either. It’s almost like they have tuned out the coach a bit. Maybe the adversity in season will be of benefit to them but they have to get their net situation sorted out.

It's been the band aide solution in Toronto for years in net, if there was no salary cap they could fix it but they are top heavy in the forward department and it's going to get worse when they give Nylander 11m. Playing AHL D men and poor goaltending wont win you the Cup

Adding guys like Domi and Reaves when you are a cap team are not necessarily optimal use of the cap when you are thin on D. I guess this shit is tough though, last season Samsonov was good for them even though his pedigree is below average. Lucky for them they aren’t commited to him past this season. They already got really lucky when their total dumpster fire off season acquisition Klingberg was able to go on LTIR. I give their GM Big Bad Brad a solid F so far.

Add in the 5.5 m that they gave Bertuzzi and you could of bagged a top 2 D man. Leafs fans look like they have decided that the coach is the problem and he might be but Shanahan and Dubas were not the answer and Shanahan and Treliving don't seem to be much better

Nylander is definitely going to get paid, they have to trade one of Matthews, Marner or Nylander in order to get a better all around team. All i can say is i'm glad we have the goaltending we do .

Taken from X your Maple Leafs goaltenders from the day Mathews and Marner joined the team

It comes down to getting the right players at the right price, which is something the Leafs have not figured out, and Chevy has. The formula is something like: O/C=V, where
O=output, measured by goals or points or Sv% and a variety of advanced stats
C=cost, which is simply AAV
V=value to the team

The Leafs, as an example have low value in goal (O) and at forward (C), but for different reasons.

The Jets have excellent value in goal, in their top D and in all their top forwards. It is remarkable that with a top-5 in the league goalie, top-5 D and top 5-10 first line, there is only a single player earning (barely) over $7MAAV. That will change next year, but the V will still be high.

I think leafs were banking on a competitive advantage in older players choosing to play in Toronto at a deep hometown discount.

I don’t think this came to fruition.

I hope Nylander stays out east.
You have to think he’s the odd man out.
I don’t think Sheldon will survive past this season.
Leafs fans are insufferable so at least this brings some enjoyment to our board.
