never knew about this rule where if a goalie freezes a shot from outside the blue line they dont go to commercial

guess it makes sense though because igor would never need to freeze a puck from that distance and we dont even shoot from 15 feet in the middle of the ice, forget about the neutral zone

They've also missed the playoffs 6 times in that 18 season span which is kind of weird when you compare it to the other really dominate team in the Pens who only missed twice (either side of the 04 lockout).
Possibly shows that TBL is more aggressive in making roster changes to refresh their chances, while a team like the Pens really held on to their core and made changes around that?

Business As Usual.
Or, Beer And Underwear; as in "when I get home it's just BAU on the couch*

*I may have just made that up, but now I kind of like it!
@Boris Zubov yeah I'm now a fully integrated corporate American stooge using abbreviations like BAU and WFH (Work From Home) in my texting and here.

Beer and Underwear, that's probably what half the people on the WFH Zooms are doing by end of week.

For reasons I don't quite understand this post piqued my interest. Mainly I think because despite me not being a huge fan of NYR drafting, I actually think we've done ok with non-1st round picks (guys like Stepan, Dubi, Cally, Fast etc).
So I took a look and the Bruins 2nd+ rnd drafting from 02-06 is exceptional. Bergeron, Thompson, Krejci, Versettg, Lucic and Marchand, plus a few more. In that time ignoring goalies and only using players with 100+ games, the Bruins drafting of 2nd round plus talent =
6718 games 1484 goals 2400 assists 3884 points

Then it just sort of falls of a cliff. Did they change out staff? From the pick after Marchand until today, still ignoring goalies and having a minimum of 100gp it =
2550 games 252 goals 537 assists 789 points

As a point of reference, post 2nd round of 06 (the Marchand pick) the Rangers have drafted the following stat-line using the same criteria:
3661 games 666 goals 1056 assist 1722 points

Probably tell us nothing really, but it wasted some time at work and seems to agree with my hypothesis that we've drafted ok outside of the first round

Gordie Clark and his staff were not objectively bad at drafting. That's just internet contrarianism without looking at the data and players who became NHLers. His players led to a core that went to one SCF, two ECFs, and won a President's Trophy and two division titles.

I give him a B+ overall. Even a situation like Cherepanov which no one knew about and led to new types of medical testing he was able to gain an asset that helped lead to current success on the team (2nd round comp pick used on Werek led to Lindberg led to VGK taking him and not Grabner which led to the Grabner trade where that pick was used with the Boston pick to trade up in round 1 for KAM).

There were three main issues with his staff: 1. No late round offensive gems 2. No elite offensive talent 3. The few times he missed were really bad (Sanguinetti who turned into Fast over Giroux, McLIrath, and I'd also put Del Z who turned into 2.5 years of Kevin Klein over John Carlson).

Friedman hinting strongly that Sakic might move upstairs and Chris MacFarland could be promoted to GM from AGM.

Colorado denied SJS and Anaheim permission to speak to him about their GM jobs.

On the podcast? I think he just said they are "taking care of him" which I took to mean $$$$.

Happy the Avs won. f*** Tampa. I didn't want to see them win it three times in a row.

Corey Perry was the lucky charm. Three straight SCF losses for him. bahahahaha

Between Perry losing and not having to hear about Maroon winning 4 times in a row, I'm ecstatic that the Avs won.

We'll see, I took it as Sakic moves up and MacFarland takes the GM job. Time will tell.
well deserved promotions. That's the same move we pulled with Drury. except Sakic is graduating and Gorton got scape-goated for assembling a soft team that Tom Wilson could bully around.

The thing with Perry is that he's won the cup before so he has 0% of the Marian Hossa sympathy when he was bouncing between Chicago, Detroit, and Pittsburgh

Sounds like Trotz has burnout.
Likely. Pro hockey even at the NHL level is a grind and not as glamorous a lifestyle as one might imagine. Living “away from home” 9 months a year, on the road for half that, and virtually no time off during the season for breaks or vacation.

Tampa putting out that every single one of their players was injured is a soft move. Lot's of excuse making and whining from them as they started to realize their chance at a 3-peat was slipping away.
