Any decision based on if the guy got hurt or not is so idiotic to me. Was dumbfounded listening to Craig Button say it was the right call for just two minutes because Cousins was going for the shoulder. Yeah Craig but he didn't get the shoulder now did he.

How many crosschecks in the face look like they were going for shoulder but didn't. You just don't get absolved because didn't mean to.

I actually just saw that same video by Button. What an insane take. It doesn't matter what Cousins was trying to do when it's physically impossible.

The NHL policy of weighing injury so heavily, or rather letting a lack of injury reduce punishment, is so stupid and dangerous.

And to clarify my earlier post I didn't like Cousins turtling after the initial hit. I hadn't seen Gudbranson jump him the second time yet. I understand his anger but these days if a guy is gonna turtle like that then drag him around the ice to humiliate him as he covers up. Don't give him a ground and pound. It's not 1997 anymore.

Though I do think Gudbranson's actions are a symptom of the refs inability to control the game.

What's wild to me is you'd think a league managed by a lawyer as the commissioner would understand the importance of precedence. Instead we get the wheel o' justice.

Rantanen thread on the mains and there is a poster who says "Rantanen has played like crap this year!"

Checks Rantanen's stats:

GP 27 G 12 A 19 PTS 31 - Good for 19th Overall in the NHL. Currently a 98 pt pace.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where do the Wings get these crappy players from?

Clearly he needs a change of scenery to reclaim his career, so Detroit should trade for him.

I think Copp would look great in an Avs jersey. :D

Haha. Shoutout @Bench and all the goalies here. This guy living out a goalie fantasy.

I wish more goalies pulled that in the shootout. At least have the threat of it out there.

Honestly when guys come to a near stop and stickhandle 50 times (I'm looking at you Kane, I haven't forgotten just because you're a Wing) I wish they'd go full Tim Thomas and knock them on their ass.

The current worst offender is I believe the Caps Kuznetsov who is basically not moving when he does shootouts. Pretty sure he is the one. Really hard to trick a goalie when you can flip the puck from side to side 900 times while the goalie has to slide back and forth.

I mean honestly the goalie doesn't even go for the puck. He straight poke checks his right skate lol. But I agree, I wish more goalies would go with the poke check on shootouts/penalty shots.

Ah good point, I should have watched it more than once last night. Seems like he laid out to try to corral the puck but also stuck hi stick way out to as kind of an insurance policy.

Either way, I agree, I like there being a never-ending arms race in the shootout. Goalies come up with a new technique, the shooters respond. Then vice versa. Keeps it interesting.

Seriously, what an embarrassing response on his part.
Anyone see that downward chop/crosscheck to Kane's right hip the other night as he and Tkachuk were passing each other behind the net? I saw that and pictured him online late at night searching "What is the most vulnerable fracture point on a resurfaced hip."

When your mild ADHD wants some background noise during a tedious task and clicks on this and ends up laughing your ass off.

"You've (to Pronger) been in the league too long to say something that stupid" -

Don't want to create another thread for this since I'm not sure of the overall source but it's fun! Now get Connor McDavid to Detroit, Gary. :sarcasm:

Seems like it might be in the NHL's best interest if the Wings "luckily" jumped up several draft positions like the Rangers. Just sayin'...

Bro, Chris Ilitch has one job (not really). How hard is it to bully Bettman with both the carrot and the stick? Do this for the Red Wings and you'll get paid, or else. Geez. :sarcasm:
