Any decision based on if the guy got hurt or not is so idiotic to me. Was dumbfounded listening to Craig Button say it was the right call for just two minutes because Cousins was going for the shoulder. Yeah Craig but he didn't get the shoulder now did he.
How many crosschecks in the face look like they were going for shoulder but didn't. You just don't get absolved because didn't mean to.
I actually just saw that same video by Button. What an insane take. It doesn't matter what Cousins was trying to do when it's physically impossible.
The NHL policy of weighing injury so heavily, or rather letting a lack of injury reduce punishment, is so stupid and dangerous.
And to clarify my earlier post I didn't like Cousins turtling after the initial hit. I hadn't seen Gudbranson jump him the second time yet. I understand his anger but these days if a guy is gonna turtle like that then drag him around the ice to humiliate him as he covers up. Don't give him a ground and pound. It's not 1997 anymore.
Though I do think Gudbranson's actions are a symptom of the refs inability to control the game.
