I’m bad at this contract stuff so pardon me, but what was Vegas’ plan? Trade Dadonov so they could activate Martinez, then just activate Stone after the season, ala Tampa Bay w/ Kuch?

Probably, but it's kind of grasping at straws anyways just like the Eichel trade. The writing is on the wall so they are trying creative/desperate things. Activating Stone after the season won't do anything because there won't be any games left to play barring a miracle.

Sorry, I meant to ask…was that their plan IF they made the playoffs? The Dadonov trade was done to make room for Martinez, right? Then they would have activated Stone before their first series. Just trying to understand.

I think you are right, can't figure any other reason. According to capfriendly, they are using 11M of LTIR relief right now with 15M actually on LTIR. Since they activated Eichel they definitely aren't accruing any space, I'm pretty sure they had to have players on LTIR just to activate him.

The big problem starts once guys come off LTIR, because once they are no longer using that their cap reverts to their upper limits. Right now, if everyone was activated they would have 96M+ on the books. Sending ELC guys down and other moves drops that to 92M, but the cap is 81.5M. So yeah, they are in a bit of trouble.

Yup. Cap doesn't apply for the playoffs, so they likely wanted to free up cap space so they could activate Martinez before season's end.

I wonder what the other ramifications are. They shouldn't be allowed to keep Martinez on IR if he's healthy.

Yeah I think that's the question: What happens to a team that isn't cap compliant? Because they sure as shit shouldn't be able to keep guys on IR that are healthy.

If the season ended today Kings would be facing the Oilers in the first round.

If LA gets back Arvidsson, Lemieux, Roy, Bjornfot, and Doughty, I like our chances.

Iafallo - Kopitar - Kempe
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson
Vilardi - Byfield - Kupari
Lemieux - Lizotte - Kaliyev

Maatta - Doughty
Durzi - Roy
Bjornfot - Spence

Quick
Petersen

If we end up playing the Oilers Iafallo and Danault need to be together and matched up against McDavid's line. Shut that line down and win the series.

I don't see any situation where Edler isn't in the lineup over Spence. He would be with Roy, they were absolutely fantastic together at the beginning of the season.

Saw this link on the trade thread. As of right now, the LA Times is the only source I've seen reporting that Dadanov was asked to waive before the trade deadline.

Dadonov filed his 10-team no-trade list to the Senators in late June 2021 prior to them sending him to the Golden Knights the following month. He did not agree to waive his no-trade clause for the Ducks when asked before the deadline Monday.

Almost every time I watch Dallas they get dominated and outshot but somehow end up finding a way to get a point or two. Very opportunistic with their chances.

There's a chance Doughty's done for the year, so it might actually be:

Maatta - Spence
Bjornfot - Roy
Edler - Durzi
