Leafs fans are so insufferable. Every single reply on Twitter is a Toronto fan using their last brain cell to make an If ThAt WaS a LeAf ItS tEn GaMeS joke.

I’ve always wondered, what would have actually happened should Sakic not have matched Feaster’s offer sheet. As it was revealed afterwards by Chris Johnston that because of an obscure clause about NHL’rs who play in any overseas leagues actually have to pass through waivers in such a transaction. (It was the season when O’Reilly and many others played in Europe that fall waiting on the NHLPA lawyers to settle with Bettman.)So theoretically, Colorado being 30th on the waiver wire, could have reclaimed him with the contract signed through Feaster, along with the offer sheet compensation. It would have been such a fiasco one has to believe a loophole would have been found, or it would have been as notorious a piece of trivia there is in hockey history. Maybe Colorado had no clue either.

I really really really wish it had happened.

My guess is that the Avalanche became alerted/aware at some point, as they made Calgary wait all week before matching the offer sheet. Perhaps Bettman quietly intervened behind the scenes, or Sakic didn’t wanna wear the look of !@#$ing over another GM the rest of his management career. But if it had happened, I don’t think it woulda been allowed to anyway. There has to be a clause deep down in the NHL bylaws somewhere that if a GM does something so radically and irresponsibly stupid that it sets his franchise back that bad, it hurts the league as a whole, and can be invalidated. Kinda like this current Dadonov saga perhaps

So I haven’t been keeping up but Vegas is f***ed right?

If 95 is the magic number, Vegas needs to go 11-4-1 over their final 16 games to finish out the season.

Edmonton needs to go 9-7-2 over their last 18 games to reach 95 points, Nashville 8-9-1 over their last 18, Dallas 10-8-2 over their last 20.

We would need to go 8-8-1 in our final 17 games.

Ducks are all but eliminated, needing 15-2-0 in their last 17 to reach 95 points.

This Vegas -Ducks trade fiasco is fascinating. Seems really clear that there is no scenario that the player could be forced to go to a team on his properly filed NTC. So, no matter where the blame lies (probably shared by everyone except the ducks) vegas is going to have some cap problems.

Trade should just be voided based on what is publicly known. Can't believe not resolved yet.

I don't think any of the blame can lie with Dadonov as his agent proved his no trade list was filed correctly.

I meant that Dadonov trade but that’s great to know as well.

It's looking like 97 will be the number right now, so it's even more dire for them. Games played is killing them.

That's even worse, then! 12-3-1 is a really tall task.

As it stands, according to SportsClubStats, the Kings have a 91% chance to make the playoffs, Edmonton has a 78% chance, and Vegas has a 30% chance. Each loss compounds significantly too.
