There's been some reports that the Russian army is having a manpower shortage, and they're enforcing military conscript/draft laws more intensely because of it.

I wonder if this is related to that.

Russian prospects are obviously conscript age, so if your select one in the NHL draft, he could end fighting in the war in Ukraine rather developing his game in the KHL or where ever else.

given today’s climate , I would not touch a Russian before the 4th round.

There's mixed reports on Kaprizov's situation, but "fake military ID's" sounds like something that would be par for the course in Russia.

If this means Miroshnichenko somehow falls to round 2 I hope LA moves up to snag him

I would legit feel bad for the Wild if they traded Fiala only to lose Kaprizov to unforseen circumstances indefinitely only days later
what if it leads to Bedard and than Kaprizov comes back to play with him?

Avs not looking like they are going to be doing much in the next few drafts. Defending champ going into next season and the 23' deadline it's likely they trade another pick or two. The price of winning but you do it all day long if it gets you to the top of the summit.

Hextall learning from Lombardi again.

Or, for the most part, if you want to stay somewhere, and you've won there(or even if you haven't like with Hertl in SJ), the organization is very likely going to pay you. Even if you're not going to win again, like here, or Washington, or wherever. It's just what franchises do. Talent isn't easy to find. Ruthlessness just doesn't exist enough to expect it.

Name the franchise that says, yeah, we're just going to get rid of these fan favorites, because we can't win the Cup. If a player chooses to leave, that's different(like Buffalo when Drury and Briere chose to get out), but if a guy wants to stay, there are very, very few teams that will refuse and not give that guy whatever he wants. As much trouble as Eichel has been, as much as he's "not a winner", had he wanted to remain in Buffalo, he'd still be a Sabre today.

Top tier players change teams every year, for a variety of reasons.

Chicago moved out a third of their roster and win another Cup. Look at the changeover in Pittsburgh's roster between their Cups.

The Kings let every single of the hired guns - the real leadership group - walk, almost all for nothing.

Your theory is nice, just doesn't hold water.

This seems pretty awful for Chicago

People were saying it would cost the kings a first, turcotte, one of clarke/byfield, +. Everyone overrates trade costs. This isnt much more than Fiala. Eichel didnt cost too much either in the end.

Bit suprised Chicago didn’t get a prospect in return as part of the deal. Wonder if they inquired about one of the Sens goalie prospects or one of Thomson/Brannstrom.
