That ‘22 team, even though they were stacked, had tons of leadership.

Landeskog, E. Johnson, J. Johnson, Cogliano, Helm, and Kadri to a lesser degree. All tremendous leaders in different ways.

We replaced those guys with players who are not leaders. Period.
All guys who could feel comfortable debating with their coach. What we've got now are a bunch of hesitant phsyical bottom sixers who get benched for playing the way a bottom six is supposed to play.

I've gone through seasons questioning Jared's lineup decisions. As the Avs were more or less winning I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He no longer deserves any more benefit of the doubt than Prischepov or Ludvig.

Seriously...if the guy can't take the multitude of bottom sixers force fed to him and come up with a decent game plan, I'm just not sure what else there is to say.

Although, it appears I've been saying this a lot today...so I'm just going to shut up on Bednar for a few days now.

Its the god awful gamesystem(for this roster) which has now been exposed heavily. 1 line and 1 dedensive pair can execute it.

None of the other lines can and still somehow they are forced to play it. Thats why it looks so awful.

Play trap with all the other 3 lines or something else more suitable to their skillset.

If Avs continue this way they are not going to playoffs...
I’m willing to bet there’s no system where a good majority of these players will succeed. And a boring-ass trap only works if you got the players able to do it (and they don’t). No way, no how can Colton or Wood pull it off.

Bednar is saying we don’t have the same high powered offensive team anymore, and we don’t really have a defensive, physical heavy team either. So where do we go from here? We’re screwed, that’s where

IMO if you don't believe you can play the old Avs style anymore, you have to become the Western version of the Carolina Hurricanes. Tell the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines to throw pucks at the net from everywhere and just cycle in the offensive zone, maintain possession and tire out the opposition while hoping the top guys produce.

It's not a long term sustainable winning formula at all but I don't know what else Bednar can try doing other than "top guys go" for 25-30 minutes of death.

He can try to make players do what they’re incapable of, but I really doubt they’ll have much success. If we had Landy and Val, they’d bring some heavy forecheck cycle game, but we don’t have them. Best thing to do is find a good 2C, get Val back, then at least we’ll have 2 scoring lines, we’d still need few more changes, but at least with 2 scoring lines, we can actually put together some winning streaks instead of losing one winning one, or losing two, winning two etc…

You're putting a lot of faith into a guy who hasn't played in almost 3 years and another who has barely played 50% of games in that same timeframe.

No, I’m just saying if Landy was never injured and we had him and Val, those two can bring that power game, cycling and stuff, but we will have Val back and hopefully he stays healthy rest of the season. Just find a good 2C somehow

It took the Avs 5 years after 1996 to win a second Cup with Sakic, Forsberg, Roy, Foote, Ozo et al. Between '96 and '01 they got knocked out of the playoffs by the Wings, Dallas and Edmonton. That was pre-salary cap.

You can have an intelligent discussion about how Sakic and Forsberg equate to Cale and Nate. We certainly don't have Patty Roy. Pierre Lacroix v CMac? You make the call. Bednar v Crawford/Hartley? I''l take Bedsy.

This is a tough, unforgiving league to grind out a dynasty - or even repeat.

I'm not climbing any ledges. Yet.

How is this even a remotely apt comparison? That team between 96 and 01 went to 3 conference finals (and subsequently went to the conference finals the year after the -01 cup). So if you do the math, that’s 4 conference finals and 2 cup finals in 7 years. I won’t even dignify spelling out this iteration of the Avs playoff record over the last 7 years in comparison to the 90’s-00’s team.

Not only that, Sakic and Co. had to play against some juggernaut Wings and Stars teams on a regular basis. We sat and watched this iteration get beat by some mid level teams in the 1st and 2nd round over the last 6/7 years, including a new expansion team in the first round.

It’s an absurdly laughable comparison. The last 2.5 years version of the Avs gets skated off the ice compared to any of the Sakic/Forsberg teams.

Nobody cares if you lose in the effing conference finals. Nobody. Lacroix had no cap, more stars ...and 2 cups in 6 years. Fact.

Such an underrated thing. You will never convince me that Kadri, Cogs, EJ and Landy would have let that Blues game slide the other day. How many shots in the 3rd period? 4?

Coming off 4Nations to back to back losses and now playing at home after some rest?

This is the type of situation I from the comfort of my sofa demand nothing but a 1000% effort from the Avs. Earn your icetime and will the f***ing wins!! Anyone but the top dogs on the team should play like their life depended on it. The deadline is looming.

4 points. Counter the previous two right away.

They do if you’re inane enough to somehow compare this garbage iteration of the Avs to those in the 90’s/00’s.

At this point I gotta hope for something. I’m hoping for Val to come back and stay healthy, and CMac to find a 2C, otherwise there is no point thinking this team can do anything this year
I am beyond that point, to be honest. Even with a healthy Nuke, who can stay sober, i dont see this team making any noise this season. Dallas, Vegas, Edmonton... Hell even the Jets are all just better teams all around. And they will load up at TDL with way more cap and trade-material.

Dont do anything at the TDL, maybe try to get rid of dead bodies on this team and try again next year with a new coaching team. I really start to warm up for this.

Sorry Jared, but the wheels are off. Thank you for your service and the cup in 2022. It will never be forgotten. And thank you for jumping into a hot mess when Roy quit on us and leading the rebuild.

But its time to go....

@RoyIsALegend I think you made an error with the thread title, you seem to imply heads deep in asses is a bad thing, when we all know a higher Æ/60 rating is just what this team needs now in this pivotal moment
