I was too young to idolize Gretzky when he was with the Kings. By the time I started to religiously follow the team in the early 2000s, he was obviously retired. So I’m really rooting for Ovie to break his all-time goals record. But are Canadian fans (the super nationalistic ones at least) against a Russian guy or for that matter, a non-Canadian player, doing that?

Arizona is a tragedy but I still see more fans there than in Canada. Maybe by next year they'll let a couple eSsEnTiAl WoRkErS in. Loved that heartwarming video where Hyman gets a tribute and thanks an empty arena, LOL! I hate to say it guys, but we're living in a clown world completely devoid of logic and reason.

Gretzky is my all-time favourite and is the sole reason I'm a Kings fan (I was nine when he got dealt to LA, so I followed him but was old enough to cheer for the actual team by the time he left so I remained a Kings fan). So on a personal level, no, I don't want him to break it. Gretz is my guy and we all want our guy to keep the record.

But when I set that aside, I think Ovie will break it and if he does should be considered the greatest goalscorer ever. He maybe arguably is the greatest already. Goals per game over their career they are about the same (Ovie .612/game and Gretzky .601/game) but Ovie was robbed of his rookie season due to the lock out, robbed of another 34 games during the next lock out, another 13 games during the first covid season and 26 games last year in the second covid year. He's missed out on roughly 155 games due to stuff totally out of his control and not injury related. If you assume he scored a very modest 50 goals in that time, he'd be at 806 goals and need just 89 goals to pass Gretzky. I can't see how he wouldn't get that much the way he's going still.

So I am sort of rooting for him. Selfishly, I want my guy to keep it but I also want the best goalscorer to hold the record and that should be Ovie.

All that said, to me the real greatest of all time is Mario. If he had been able to stay healthy and didn't retire for three years he likely would have hit 1,000 goals.

We get it, you're frustrated. Who wouldn't be. Relax and answer the question. They wouldn't ask it if your team was winning.

That said Jim calling him 'pissy,' wtf is that? Both need to show some professionalism.

I actually think Draisaitl comes out of that looking just fine. It wasn't a 'good' answer or what they were looking for and the shot at the reporter was pretty petty but what kind of ego do you have to have to be a petty little bitch and try to get into it with a player at the stand? I would have had enough to work with after he took the shot at me and been like "okay" I will! LD never had a big attitude or anything, he took a deep breath and answered.

That reporter was out of line. Read the room. The team is struggling.

"HHOF" or not, report the news, don't become the news.

Edit: Reddit forums are littered with this nutsack being an idiot.

This is why I give the So Cal reporters, beat writers, bloggers, and podcasters slack for "not asking the hard-hitting questions."

The moment it starts getting spicy, you might start getting tantrums and lose access for a sound bite.

Not that I don't WANT to hear tougher questions be asked, but it's a much more delicate balance if you want to evoke a response. Usually, it just doesn't seem like it's worth it.

This is why you need the rotating fan question. A new fan after every game, they never see this person again, but they can be the one to ask the question...

"So Kopitar, this your 10th straight year passing back and forth with Doughty on the powerplay accomplishing jack shit. At what point do you consider trying something creative? After the percentage falls below 10?"

He doesn't even need to answer, just someone needs to say it to his face.

I like how the official was just looking at Greenway, waiting for him to take a big shot and have to jump in.

The Wild are just becoming more and more unlikeable and dirtier by the minute, I love that MacD didn't let him off the hook. Greenway thought he was going to get away with it and if he doesn't get a good long suspension, he just really crippled a divisional foe for very little.

Greenway is a f***ing clown, anyway, can't forget him trying to give Lizotte the business repeatedly.

No offense but that's crap. If they're taking shots nightly I get what you're saying, but like I said above, you can ask a tough question respectfully without becoming part of the story. There IS certainly a delicate balance but right now ours walk on the polar opposite end of the spectrum as the douche above.
