Am I the only one who isn't scared of a Vegas who is suddenly top-heavy and shallow on depth?

You’re not the only one. Eichel trade has brought VGK lots of fanfare and optimistic projections, but in reality it’s a desperation move. The writing was on the wall getting booted by the current worst team in the entire league.

I know Kopitar's inconsistency can drive people nuts, but when people point out "bad" leaders or players who don't expect more out of themselves, I'd take a look at a player who doesn't backcheck and replies with "I don't know what to tell you."

Edit: this is not to say McDavid will always be a bad leader, but these are cues for bad leadership to me

as much as I LOVE piling on the Oilers...

I'm prepared to cut guys some slack when the questions are all basically "Hey. You guys suck. What's up with that?"

How about "Yeah we suck right and as captain I have to be better and have to play harder, etc.". Might be all cliches and platitudes but gotta show you care at least. What he said reeks of indifference to losing.

Sure. That's the perfect ideal answer. How many great players in any sport have ever come out and been able to say that confidently into the camera after like 6 years of individual disappointment and 15 years of organizational failure.

I'm not suggesting that he's a GOOD leader... I'm just willing to cut him a break and not call him a bad leader.

That organization is a grist mill of hopes and dreams. The ice at their arena is made from the frozen tears of fans and players.

I really hate the Oilers.

He's not the best public speaker. He took a ton of flack for his "it is what it is" comment when asked about Kane. Then EJ Hradak when on a rant about him saying "FREE MCDAVID!" and get as much as you can for him and start over. He did not hold back.

Which bring me too, how much would McDavid cost?
Are we talking a Gretzky kind of trade? I'm sure multiple 1st, and top prospects, would it be worth gutting the farm to get him?

McDavid did a little interview with Gretzky like a year ago and said his favorite place is Los Angeles. Not that it matters but if they run him out of town and he gets his choice its not impossible.

Why does McDavid have to be a good leader? lol I don't get it when players that clearly don't excel at the job get picked for captain.

He doesn't have to be.

But there's a vocal minority who thinks Kopitar is a bad captain and that the Kings won't accomplish anything with him as a captain, because he doesn't "lead the right way."

I just brought up McDavid as a point of reference.

This is always an interesting argument to me. We don’t have access to the locker room or day to day life stuff. From hearing stories here and there, it sounds like Kopi fits the bill. He just isn’t a fiery emotional guy on the ice.

Or a fighter, because some around here think unless you drop the gloves or get all up into another guys grill after a dirty play, your leadership sucks!

After a good game when the team is winning, "kopitar is underrated"
When the team is losing, "Kopitar is old and should have never been the captain"
No thats not true. Kopitar was getting called out after wins.
Its more like when hes playing bad for a couple months people say it and when hes playing well people say it. It shouldnt bother anyone to discuss it.

Was was recently listening to NHL radio interview with a female between the benches reporter who was asked for a great chirping quote.
She tells how Marchissault, when playing COL, stayed on MacDermid all game telling him he was the worst player in the NHL.
Really pissed me off. Going at MacDermid that way?? I cannot wait until someone punches that punk p***y SOB right in his face. God how he has always deserved it.
